I had this issue starting at age 13, around the same time my parents were getting divorced. The last time I had an episode was around age 29. It was usually triggered by being really emotionally stressed out and eating late/not super healthy foods. I am now 38 and was remembering how I would suffer from this on and off for 16 years and thought "hey, I should google that" and came across this site. Wish I would have been able to have this community of people to talk to when I was going through it. Same as other folks here have noted - had several GI tests and doctor visits and they never found anything and would look at me like I was making it up. Looking back I wish I would have gone to the doctor office while the episodes were in full effect and let them smell what was coming out of my mouth and see if they thought it was normal then. Anyway, was trying to remember what was going on 10 years ago when this stopped for me. The only thing I can think of is I started doing lots of cleanses, including a couple of parasite cleanses (do research to be sure to do the right way and the right kind). And paying more attention to enzymes and bacteria balance of the gut. Coincidence? Dunno - but worth a shot!!

I'm believe the body has parts for purposes and to try to heal them rather than remove:/. But I know it doesn't work out for everyone.

Okay I have been having the same problems as you all for the past 18mos. Awful burps, vomiting, violent diarrhea, cramping. It's comes and goes..finally I had enough. I went to the Dr today and told him all of my issues and he flat out said, the burps are "symptomatic" I don't need to test you. I know exactly what this is because I myself have had this exact problem. You have Giardia and it is a parasite. You can get it numerous ways. I probably got mine from my children who which brought it from daycare. I hope this helps someone because I know I just wanted a name of something to search on the web that made sense and this all made sense. I am now on antibiotic and hopefully this will kill the parasites that is completely tearing the insides of my stomach apart.

often caused by eating too much protein. If you have eaten too much protein than it is just sitting in your stomach and the sulfur burps are caused because of the build up of the acid in your stomach.. YOu can alleviate it by eating more fiber to help digest the protein.

Did you ever find an answer? I have just seen your post today and am very interested as I experienced the same symptoms as you this morning for the first time, but not some of the ones others in this thread have mentioned.

I ate the same food as my husband last night and yet woke this morning burping as if I had just eaten a massive meal, followed by diahorrea like I have never had before.

I am a 42 year old female and I have experienced the rotten egg burps since I was in Junior High School.  I actually remember the exact day because we were on a school trip to New York and we were in a charter bus.  I could not escape. I was so embarrassed.

My symptoms usually include the rotten egg burp, nausea and an upset stomach.  I don't have any of the others listed. I always thought it was happening because I don't eat enough vegetables (I hate them). So I would take laxatives to make me go to the bathroom.  This is exactly what I did today when it came back. I don't have the symptoms often, maybe once every few years. I have never kept track.

I am going to go to the doctor tomorrow to get tested for Giardiasis to see if that is what I have. I would love to be able to get rid of this permanently.

Thank you...however, I've dealt w/ this for about 20 yrs. I am a FIEND about eating supper at least 5 hrs before I go to bed, and I make sure it's fairly light. I don't eat meat & avoid most fatty food, so I don't believe those cause it. I am tired of sleeping sitting up! The burps, swelling abdomen, diarrhea, etc., are NO FUN! I've tried nearly every OTC med there is though I'll give it another try. Yes, I've had a sigmoidoscopy + fecal smear & came out healthy. ???

my son has cvs(cyclic vomiting disorder) which are the samr complaints you have but along with bad headaches. They put him on Elavil at night and zofran if he starts vomiting and he now has fewer episodes and they don't last as long if they do start.

Hi all... These are symptoms of H. Pylori. Another words H. Pylori bacteria in your g.i. which causes ulcers. It is treatable in a triple treatment of antibiotic and prilosec. Its a 14 day treatment and you must finish it all or it will come back. Been there done that.

Having same problems, just not as severe - think it's early in the process yet. Just having the sulfer burps frequently. I had a scan for kidney problems a year ago, but learned that I had several, tiny, stones in my galbladder. Was advised to watch diet .... no fried or greasy foods .... more fresh foods ..... I'm a vegetarian so eat more fresh fruits and veggies, etc. Never any pain or discomfort with this .... just the frequent, silent, burping .... completely new symptom for me. I'm almost positive it's connected to the galbladder stones somehow. Years ago a good friend of mine had serious symptoms that included all the belching .... she had to have her galbladder removed. She was told by her physicians that the belching is always a sign of galbladder problems. I've never forgotten that, and now the same thing seems to be happening with me. I'm making an appointment with a gastroenterologist as soon as possible tomorrow after reading all of these posts. I'm reasonably sure now that it's galbladder and the parasite issue together. Does the parasite live in the galbladder by any chance?

All the very best to all the rest of you posters ..... I wish for you all rapid relief from your symptoms, answers to the problems, and effective treatment that resolve the problems.

Thank you all,
Margo Tannenbaum
