Hi guys. I am so relieved that other people suffer from the same mystery illness. It started for me 5 years ago (a month after I stopped smoking). Eggy burps tell me that's trouble is on the way. Bad abdo pain, watery diarrhoea, fever, foul wind, pain moves round to the sides of my back and also upwards to my stomach. In really bad episode I then vomit. After I vomit I feel a lot better. Been for endoscopes, colonoscopies, and blood tests all to no avail. Latest consultant tells me it's because I'm overweight and I might also be lactose intolerant. I'm convinced that the problem is gastro - it's as if there is food rotting at the base of my stomach. Really crippling condition and so unpredictable in terms of it can come on at any time without warning. If anyone can offer hope and optimism that things will get better and one day there will be a cure, I'll be very happy!!!

Well, this is the 2nd time in weeks that I've been feeling like this. Major sulfer burping, watery diarrhea (a lot of times with undigested food particles), nausea w/o vomiting, and bloating. I had my gallbladder removed 3 months ago and this started after. I was given Lactulose Solution by my surgeon and I seem to get rid of this when I take it faithfully for a few days. The problem is that the medicine is so sweet that I can barely stand to take it, so I stop and then end up paying for it. The surgeon thinks I have IBS with chronic constipation. I think she may be right since alot of the food particles are from anywhere from 1-4 days old. Unfortunately, I also have many other health issues and take alot of medications and that complicates diagnosis. Add to this that I recently lost my health insurance and I've got a recipe for disaster brewing. I've read a lot of different posts about this and the one thing I've seen is a lot of expensive tests for a lot of different diagnosis' and some them really scare me (like stomach cancer, diverticulitis, and chrone's disease to viral infections). I lost 20lbs during my gallbladder problem and gained back 5lbs since but now I'm not eating again because everything in comes out immediately and my stomach hurts constantly. Any help?

I experienced that awful sulphur smell also! Omgoodness I did think I had food poisoning because I went with my friend to an employee banquet and the pork was NOT cooked properly! It was still fibrous and not edible, I thought maybe, my chicken wasn't cooked all the way either, it was cooked in a plum sauce. I suffered for four months like clock work, the interval was every two weeks! I went to a 'new' doctor at our physicians office and he said, oh your diagnosis is easy! Gallbladder issues! Then he gave me more info on it and I had every telltale symptom! Now, my eight year old son gets this egg smelling breath, burps and gas about once a month! He had it over the weekend and this morning! Could it be his gallbladder or that parasite?! Makes me scared because he is a neat and clean little guy, always sanitizing and wiping the toilet handle and seat before and after he uses the toilet and washes his hands after bathroom use and uses hand sanitizer occasionally and he's been doing that since he was three years old! I may have to take him to the doctor I seen to get a proper diagnosis! But ask about it being your gallbladder, it may be inflamed...

Thank you for this post. I have had this burp/fart problem for years and doctors just shrug when asked about them. A couple of weeks ago I was in the emergency room because of severe pains in my abdomen, they did a sonogram on my gall bladder and did not find any stones but said it was really sludged up. These burps come and go, whenever I get them I take a look at what I have eaten in the last 48 hours and there is no one, consistent food that creates this problem (that I can tell). I am also taking metphormine for my diabetes, but I take that twice a day -- every day and so I can see not connection between my metphormine and my burps. Gonna call my doctor tomorrow and get a referral to see a surgeon to discuss the removal of my gall bladder---hoping that is the problem.

I have had a few episodes of this, many tests etc and other than being diagnosed with malabsorption, nothing can be particularly pinpointed. I had pancreatitis a few years back due to gallstones and had my gallbladder removed and felt well for a couple of years, then gradually went into constant yellow watery pooh which would come on very quickly. In the last 2 years now however, once I get an eggy burp, I know I have 24 hours of sickness and diarrhoea to follow. They are disgusting. Only thing I have noticed is in a few days leading up to this bout of whatever it is, I have a lot of wind and then eating some things fatty trigger it off. I was 'treated' to a KFC yesterday, haven't had 1 for a good few years, then this was followed by a donut so think that triggered it off. I bring up yellow sick with undigested food in it. From my personal experience try and stick to a low fat diet. Lesson learned for me after todays day. Not ice at all.
