My 34 year old friend (male 135 lbs, 5'10'') stopped taking 600 mg of seroquil daily a few months ago and did quite well until last night, after a traumatic experience, he took 600 mg and has been sleeping for nearly 20 hours. I didn't realize until an hour ago and have notice sleep apnea but no other apparent difficulties in his sleep. Please advise - should I wake him? Any recommendations for adjustment to taking these meds - possibly reduce the amount and gradually increase to the previous prescription level? Help? jluap

Hi! The sleeping effect of Seroquell is very well known. It can make patients sleep until tomorrow. I don’t think it would do him any good if you woke him…he will wake up eventually.
Did he stop taking seroquel on his own or in arrangement with his doctor? What was he taking seroquell for, schizophrenia or bipolar disorder?

I don’t think that you should be doing anything regarding the drugs, if he continues to take them, he will need prescriptions anyway, so it would be good if he saw his doc right away to check his current condition and decide on the correct dosage. The only thing you can do is be supportive and helpful.

The night he took the drug again, did he start experiencing the symptoms again or not?
