I was reading up about barbiturates and their various uses on wikipedia, as well as the way in which people use them as "recreational" drugs sometimes. Funnily enough, the information I was reading contained no passage about the side effects of barbiturates, though it did see barbiturates can be addictive and hard to withdraw from. It left me wondering about actual side effects of the use of barbiturates, though... Perhaps someone here can enlighten me?

Sure, barbiturates can have side effects from fevers to hallucinations, and from joint pain to a sore throat, and wheezing. Some people are allergic to all barbiturates or some barbiturates, and then hives, breathing difficulties and other severe reactions are possible. Higher dosages of barbiturates come with bigger side effects.
