hi, guys. I have never posted about a subject on a blog before. I have been on Effexor Xr 150mg for about a yr and a half, on 75mgs for about 6mts before that. About six months after my dosage being increased I started developing a whole lot of symptoms. I was being tested for things like MS. I had been to 3 neurologist, a rheumatologist, an endocrinologist, my PCP, and a hematologist. I had a slew of tests done including mri's, ct's, ekg's, nerve conduction studies, numerous blood tests, even a muscle biopsy. A few small findings but nothing significant. I have been out of work for over a year, unable to function or drive. The side effects started out as extreme fatigue, headaches (which slowly increased in intensity and frequency), muscle weakness, dizziness, memory loss, trouble concentrating, vision problems, and speech difficulty. I had trouble sleeping, pain all over my body, diminished reflexes as well as muscle spasms. Later I also developed anorexia, I had a fainting spell where I lost control of my bowels, frequent urination, my period came 2 times a month, the headaches turned into migraines, the muscle pain and weakness got more consistent, memory problems got worse, I was short of breath, and felt like had developed circulation problems and the chronic fatigue was horrible. No one knew what was wrong with me. I was completely honest with all my doctors including my psychiatrist who knew all my symptoms. I had researched all syndromes and conditions on the internet that could possibly be causing my symptoms. I reviewed my entire medical history with several doctors, all of who was aware of my current medications. One day while talking to someone of my symptoms and explaining how debilitated my life had become, someone asked me if I was on any antidepressants. I had responded just Effexor but I had been on it for a while so these symptoms couldn't possibly be side effects. After exhausting all other options I am thinking that my problems are in fact related to taking Effexor.
