I have been considering alternatives to sugar, but unfortunately it looks like most of the sugar replacing products have some side effects. How about saccharin? Are any of you using saccharin instead of sugar, and did you read up about the side effects before you started using it? Do you all think saccharin is safe? What are the side effects and how did you find out about those side effects?

They say stevia is a better sugar alternative than any of the other stuff.

It's super sweet and you would use about half of what you would use for sugar. I even bought a stevia plant to grow last year. It tasted really good in salads - you can eat right off the plant. Idon't know how it's dried to use as sugar though.

Hello,

Saccharin is one of the first and most used artificial sweeteners and there is and was much debate about its side effects after it was found in one research that it might potentially be cancerogenic. However, these findings have been disputed and FDA has approved the use of saccharin in food.
It definitely is several hundred times sweeter that table sugar, but it also does come with bitter aftertaste that regular sugar doesn’t have.
Also, some people do experience allergic reactions to saccharin, the symptoms being mainly related to stomach problems and headaches. If this is the case with you, than you definitely shouldn’t use saccharin. There are alternatives now, such as the stevia ReneeBarnesOrozco mentioned, if you don’t want to use sugar in your diet anymore.
