I started taking singulair and also started gaining weight. All in my midsection and back, I now have love handles and look pregnant.  My Dr is also denying the link between the two..I have maintained the same weight for years, and all of a sudden I feel like a big bloated blob.  I am glad I found these posts, and will be discontinuing my Singulair use. Also when my son was put on it he began displaying very aggressive behavior.

I've had the same weight gain side effect with Singulair. However, drinking Tulsi tea and doing Buteyko breathing exercises (most of which you can find online at YouTube) have cleared up my asthma more than anything else I've ever done, so I stopped it. It appears Singular can build up in the liver; for those of you having trouble gaining weight, try cutting out table sugar and see if that helps (it will put less load on your liver). Best of luck to everyone.

I completely agree that it causes weight gain no matter what anyone else says... since taking it I have gained 8lbs...now that might not seem like alot BUT I go to weight watchers, my food intake has not changed and i eat very healthy... there is no reason for me to be gaining weight... I've stopped the singulair now and am going to see how the next few weeks go...

My daughter has been taking singular for about 5 weeks. She started having bloating and painful upper stomach cramps after she would eat. We took her to a gastroenterologist and he thinks that it is a case of bad acid reflux, still running tests.  During this same time she started to gain weight. She cut way down in food intake, around 1200 cal a day and exercised an hour a day. She could not loose any weight. We are just talking 3 lLBS but for a 17 year old this was major.  Then within 2 days she put on another 2 LBs. She was panicking and not eating anything and still gaining. Very depressed and moody too. She was also having very bad dreams. After she gained the 5th LB she was desperate to find out what was causing it. I forgot to give her medicine before she went to school and then it hit me to google singular side affects and weight gain and I was shocked with what I found. Weight gain, bloating, cramps, depression and suicides, people were reporting due to singular. Well it has been 2 days without it and the first day she didn't loose an ounce and even gained a little more and was questioning whether it was permanent weight gain. This morning she woke up and had lost 3 LBS!  I know she was only on it a short time but thank God that I had the thought pop into my head to google singular. If you are having any unexplainable symptoms go off singular first.

Thank you all for confirming why I am having such a hard time with my weight gain!  I lift weights 2xs a week, do yoga and do cardo the other 3 days.  I can not seem to lose the weight.  I began taking the drug about a year ago, and have had weight problems ever since.  I eat extremly well.  I also get bloated very easily...I think I am going to remove myself from the perscription, and see what happens.

I took singulair and advair for 3 months. In that time I gained 25 lbs. I have been off both for 6 months now and I couldn't lose weight for 3 months despite the fact that I worked out an hour a day and cut carbs out of my diet. I joined a weight loss clinic and I was told to cut carbs, fat, salt and alcohol out of my diet which I did. I am also still exercising daily. In three months I have lost 9 lbs. The average weight loss in that clinic is between 30-45 lbs after 3 months. I am so frustrated. I love the way I felt when taking advair and singulair but I will never touch them again. The doctors keep telling me its my age or I am not working out hard enough. If I hear that again...I swear!!!!

teagal, you're the exception, not the rule. I've talked to more than 300 people, and you are the ONLY one who did not gain, and i'm frankly doubtful of you because of that. Singulair is simply bad stuff, and the pharmacy companies are lying about it.

I am on Singulair and have horrible cramps with bloating on my back and my mid section. I thought I had food poisoning or a stomach virus. I have been running and taking saunas to sweat the water retention out and it appears it was just the Singulair. It is horrible because I breathe well on it, but it is not worth the discomfort. Anyone else have this?

Singulair does not make you gain weight. Eating makes you gain weight. Even prednisone is suppose to cause weight gain but that's because it causes the patient to have hunger pains so they eat more and naturally gain weight.
Been there, done that, am now on Singulair and loosing weight

Thank you all for taking the time to post about this.  I have been tracking my weight consistantly for over 2 years now as well as my diet, exercise and water intake.  Two years in a row, I am at my lowest weight in January. That's right.... I make it through Thanksgiving and Christmas and weigh my least in January.  By March my allergies are horrible and I will develop a sinus infection if I can't control them.  This is when I start taking Singular again daily.  By July, I have gained 20lbs.  Because this has happened 2 years in a row at exactly the same time, I started looking at the changes that occur during these months.  The only thing that I can find in common is Singular.  When I googled Singular and weight gain I found this site.  I am truly sorry for everyone's weight gain, but I am relieved to know that this may be the culprit and I am not crazy.  Thanks again for sharing.  I am now looking for a new allergy medication.

Add me to the growing list of folks who gained weight or couldn't lose while taking Singulair.  I was put on Singulair and Advair several years ago because of adult asthma and my weight balooned to  278.  I joined Weight Watchers 1 1/2 yrs. ago and I've lost 53 pounds but it has been a battle.  I will lose one week and then the next gain for now reason.  I have been following the program, trying to exercise and after some initial success, my weight loss has stalled out.  My friend suggested looking up info on the medicines I take to see if one of them was the culprit.  AFter reading everyone's posts, I now know it was Singulair.  I am going to call my dr. and ask for something else.  Besides the weight gain problem, it's too darn expensive for me anyway.

I was active in high school and I gained weight. When I was 16 I got swollen around my ankles and had tests done that were negative. I just stopped the drug 1 month ago and I have lost 2 pounds since. I am thinking that the drug company wasn't wanting to say anything. I'm not saying it was the cause of my weight gain because I still ate, but I was active during middle school and high school and went from skinny to fat anyways. I have struggled with my weight. Eating less junk and working out still didn't help so I just quit trying. Now since I stopped the drug since I cant afford it anymore. I havent been craving sweets and junk food like I was, so hopefully I will keep loosing weight. Also I haven't been as tired. I have been more alert. I would like to know why singular is saying it doesn't cause weight gain when a lot of people are having the problem since starting it.

Someone had suggested in this forum about a year ago that we can call the company to tell of this effect... So maybe if enough of us do this they'll have to look into it. Add me as another mid section gainer.. Got a Treadmill for Christmas ran 30-40 min also in Spring added an hour Bike ride along with treadmill, ate clean an healthy, an lost nothing An I'm sorry but there are to many people saying the same thing For this all not to be correct... Right?! An we don't know each Other at all, so how do we all say the same thing!?
