Ask your doctor for cromolyn sodium for a nebulizer. I do it 3-4 times a day. It's awesome. Or, I get a Rx for my doc for the inhaler from Canada. They no longer make it in the US because of CFCs. Funny how other countries can do it... Cromolyn sodium can even be taken if you're pregnant. No steroids. Never heard of anyone having side effects.

That is the exact same for me, I was always very thin and fit before I began taking Singular when I was around 15, I am now 18 and weigh around 130ish and I workout about 5 days a week. I quit taking Singular about 3 weeks ago because I realized that my mood swings, depression, and anxiety may be linked to my intake of Singular. I was actually diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. After stopping Singular my severe mood swings, confusion, depression, and anxiety have all gone away. I am beginning to lose weight also and none of my eating habits have changed, and I have actually exercised less. Its remarkable! I wish would have know this was all linked to Singular earlier.
Best of Luck.

I have gained almost 10 pounds since I started taking singular in a regular basis in less than two months, and I take it every other day. I double up the amount of work outs, eat healthy, drink a lot of water, and nothing seems to work, but getting worst. My belly is folding in two, and I didn’t understand why. Since singular has been the only change I have added to my diet, I have been thinking for the last two weeks that it has been the cause to weigh gain. I just confirmed with this post other that I read earlier. No more singular for me. I need to lose that weigh I have gained due to singular.

Just because you are not gaining weight does not mean it doesn't have that side effect. Good luck to you in the future

Many medications can cause weight gain without change in diet and I believe Singulair to be one of them. I haven't been on it long but I am carefully watching my diet and exercising yet cannot lose a pound. Plus, though my weight is the same as it was in the fall, pants that fit then, do not now, so my weight has shifted to my abdomen somehow. There are other medications that cause weight gain, in particular Lexapro, which caused me to gain 20 lbs in one month even though I was faithfully following Weight Watchers. So don't try and tell me it isn't the medication, because I know for a fact it is. I believe these medications change your metabolism. I just hope the short time I've been on Singulair doesn't cause me to never be able to get this weight off. And FYI, I don't even have an appetite and have to force myself to eat my meals.

I started taking singulair 2 weeks ago and already gained 5 pounds which I'm do mad bc I worked so hard on my diet and got to my goal weight. I starting thinking what was different and it was the Singulair after reading all these post I do believe it is the cause.

I AM SO GLAD I FOUND THIS!! I've been suffering from depression from all this weight gain. In July, it will be a year that I have been on singulair and advair. I have gained 30 pounds. I have worked my butt off with no loss. Just gains. I ate so healthy for so long and nothin. I had my thyroid checked out like everyone else on here. Nothing. So I now believe it is from the Advair and singulair. I am going to start doing natural remedies and vreahing exercises. I have neverrrr been this fat. I'm 5'2" and 175 pounds. Hopefully the weight will just fall off now !

I am always a skeptic in these matters when I read about people gaining weight & blaming medications, but in this case it's absolutely true. I am in the fitness industry, workout 5-6 days a week & keep track of everything I eat. Last year I started Singulair & gained 5lbs in a week. I'm a tiny person so I went up a size.... IN ONE WEEK. Read the posts on weight gain & decided to stop taking it. Fast forward a year later, in sinus/allergy hell so I decided I'd give it another try. I've been on it 4 days & cannot zip the same jeans I wore last week. Then I did some research. This medication does in fact cause weight gain in several(unpublished by the drug companies of course) trials. Fortunately, I caught it before it turned into a massive weight gain. Some people did not make the connection bc everyone is telling them it's not the singulair. Everyone's body chemistry processes drugs differently. Just bc you were lucky & did not gain on this drug, please do not chastise the people who did.

Wow, I'm shocked to hear all this story and am glad to found out the reason of my weight gain, I've been so depressed feelings so insecure with my self, and now I know what I have to do.. Stop this medicine.. But I have a question also does anyone know what other medicine I can take that won't have this side affect?

I take montelukast and appear to have gained weight around the middle and feel bloated all the time. It is helping with my asthma.

I never put two and two together until researching this topic and finding this site. I began taking Singulair a year ago and have gained 20 pounds. I bought a FitBit to monitor my activity and have tracked food intake on its program, but no success in losing weight, even at 1300 calories a day. It's a great asthma drug, but taking it with Zyrtec has resulted in a big "spare tire" around my midriff, thick midsection, and big belly. I'm going to visit a homeopathic practitioner to find an alternative that doesn't result in looking like the Pillsbury Doughboy.
