Just curious, have you had blood work done to check and see if your hormones might have something to do with the acne or any other reason you were prescribed spironolactone in the first place? If you are having trouble conceiving I would meet with a gyno about it and they will most likely order blood work and see whats going on with that. They use spironolactone as one form of fertility treatment, so I don't think that's whats causing you to not conceive.

I dont think they were saying to take it while trying to get pregnant. I think they meant BEFORE trying to have a baby. Going off of it, then trying to have a baby. And that does make sense, because it can help women conceive better after being on it. Especially ones with hormone problems.

I can! Thank-you for your comment! I started taking 100 mg a day in November of 2016 to help with my acne. My first 3 months I had a "period" every 2 weeks. It was nightmarish for a newly Wed. As of right now I am 4 months almost starting 5 and I haven't had a "period" in 4 weeks! Either hallelujah or oh no! When I went into my dermatologist for my check up i told him i wished he would have told me before starting the medication about the crazy menstrual cycle. Surprise surprise he told me that my "periods" weren't from the medication. I still believe that they are. Even his nursing assistant gave him a testimony of having 2 week "periods" as well. So there is my testimony and my personal thoughts. BTW I've seen amazing results on this medication (and i don't even take Ibuprofen or any other medication for any reason, firm believer in your body can fix itself! Unless obviously if you have a hormone imbalance like I do.) Hope this helps put you at ease. Every BODY is different, remember that. Good luck!

I have been on this for 2 months and now am having facial swelling and tingling in my fingers that won't stop...It helped my acne at first but these side effects are too much. Especially the swelling and bloating.

I'm in the same situation. Just out of curiosity how is the health of your baby? I want to try right away but worried about the health effects on the baby. Thanks so much!

How far along were you when you found out you were pregnant?

Try to see an Endocrinologist and see if you have PCOS. PCOS will cause irregular menstrual cycles, facial hair and acne. I was taking spironolactone for the last two years, but really should have been taking Metformin to regulate my glucose and insulin resistance. Insulin resistance will cause pretty much most of these problems. Look up PCOS.

I got pregnant for the first time in my life at 29, unexpectedly. I conceived within the first two weeks off birth control (which I had been on since a young teenager for acne) and while on spironalactone for over two to three years. So, I don't believe it has any effects your fertility.

I was on it and got pregnant. I am terrified. I came off of it at 5 weeks because I didn't know the effects it could have had. I am referred to a specialist. Do you know any more information?!should I be ok? Does it affect fetal or embryonic Dev or both?

Yes your oil production will grasdually increase and the acne will all come again. You will probably gain weight and water due to losing those dietetic benefits. I've gone on and off it several times.

I had a similiar reaction when I started taking this medication. My periods also became irregular and I had more than twice a month brown disharge between periods. It is a progesterone, sorry if spelling is off. So i can see how this can mess with periods.

I am so scared. I just found out I was pregnant and I was taking 50mg of spironolactone a day. Your comment was reassuring but I'm still very concerned. Does anyone else have some reassurance?
