A few days ago when I was going to take a shower, and caught sight of myself in the mirror (scary enough!), I was immediately alarmed because it looked like the space between my actual chest was rounded, and slightly bulging. It really scared me. So I felt it, and it definitely feels rounded as well. It kept bothering me all night, and after a while I wasn't sure if maybe it had always been rounded, and I just never noticed, or perhaps some fat accrued there, and it was normal or what. I felt that space on my kids, and my husbands, and theirs feels flat, like I feel like I always remember this spot particularly being. If I rub it side to side, I feel like there is a "mass" for lack of better word, but nothing hard, or located to a certain spot. It appears to cover most all of this entire spot between my chest, almost like a fatty overlay. It is not painful, however my chest (internally) does feel irritated when I press/touch it a few times (probably normal). So from checking around on the internet I guess this is your sternum? I am not sure if heart problems are related, but I have none that I know of other than a heart murmer that I had diagnosed years ago, that does not require medication nor cause any problems. I am young (27), overweight by 50lbs and female. Is this normal, to have a rounded spot there, and what feels like something under the skin? The skin is definitely not immediately met by bone, or cartilage, there is some sort of overlay there that covers almost all of the entire spot. I really don't want to go to the drs if unneccesary, and even so I can't get in for an appt until November with my dr. I could do a walk in appt, which I am thinking of doing tonight, but don't want to if I'm going to be met with a blank stare, and dr that thinks I am crazy.
