I never cared much about my hollow chest. Bottom of my sternum is too into my chest. But I wonder will this issue ever cause me problems. Is there any ways to get it fixed?
Is there anybody else got a same issue, or is there anybody who got it fixed?
Thanks

Hi. My son is 15 and has a hollow chest. We live in Perth W Australia. We never really worried about it as we didn't think it was much of a problem.
As he has got older it is definitely more prominent. At this age he is now very conscious of it and wants to know why he has it? what causes it? who else has it? (perhaps a get together with others?)and what health risks if any, are there? Is there an operation that can fix it?
He hates people staring at it. He is very health conscious and looks after his body by running, lifting weights, sit up, push ups and was in the swim squad and in winter plays footy. He is of slim build, tall, very broad shoulders, suffers with excema, wears contacts and has flat feet. He feels that he got all the bad genetics from both of his parents and none of the good genes.
Would just like any information at all. Many thanks.

Hi,
I had a hollow chest, but I had it fixed when I was 8 by an operation, as back then (18 years ago) doctors said it will press on my heart as I get older, so I was advised to have it fixed. They cut it open and brought the bone upwards, I had to wear a frame that was pulling the sternum upwards I think for about 4 weeks. Now I have about 15cm vertical scar on my chest and the bone is slightly up too. I hated it when I was growing up, specially people staring at it... Now it doesn't bother me much at all, I have a bit of numbness in one area and due to it being slightly up I have to try on all the bras I buy, as some of them don't fit, but that's all. I'm very glad my parents agreed to the operation!
Not sure if they still operate on hollow chests though, I suppose it depends on the country and on severity of deformation...

I was born with sunken chest and it never posed any problem for me (health wise) but as I've grown older i'm very self conscious about it. I do not wear clothing that expose my chest. I've recently read about the Nuss procedure and I'm seriously thinking of having it done.
