Hi! I suffer from intense itching, burning, and stinging after the (external) hemorrhoidectomy, even in my 5th month after my surgery. I am distressed. I should not have had the surgery. It was one of my big mistakes. I still suffer from itching, burning, and stinging all over (anus, vulva and inside of buttocks) which gets worse at night. It makes me wake up. I would recommend not having surgery.

Please share with me any recommendation what can help me I prefer die than suffer that problem I am fed up :(

Hi, MJ.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing such discomfort after your hemorrhoidectomy. It's important to note that postoperative itching, burning, and stinging are common after a hemorrhoidectomy, and it can take several weeks or months for these symptoms to resolve completely.

Here are some recommendations that may help alleviate your symptoms:

  1. Apply a cold compress or ice pack to the affected area to reduce inflammation and numb the area.

  2. Use sitz baths, which involve soaking the affected area in warm water for 15-20 minutes at a time, several times a day. This can help reduce pain, itching, and inflammation.

  3. Use medicated wipes or ointments that contain witch hazel or hydrocortisone to help soothe the affected area. (this is something that helped me, although I didn't have a surgery)

  4. Avoid straining during bowel movements, as this can exacerbate your symptoms. Use a stool softener if necessary.

  5. Wear loose-fitting clothing that allows for air circulation to the affected area, and avoid tight-fitting clothing.

  6. Consult with your doctor about medication options, such as pain relievers or prescription creams, that may help alleviate your symptoms.

  7. Consider seeking the advice of a dermatologist, as they may be able to provide further guidance and treatment options for your symptoms.

It's important to remember that everyone's experience after a hemorrhoidectomy can be different, and what works for one person may not work for another. I encourage you to speak with your doctor about your ongoing symptoms and discuss any concerns you may have. They may be able to provide further guidance and support for your recovery.
