I have noticed that every time I have sex my vaginal lips are swollen. Is this something alarming or is it normal? Just recently I had sex for very first time so I am still new in all of this. Can someone tell me why does this happen?

Firs I have to tell you that if this problem is persistent, you should make an appointment at your local Genitio-Urinary Medicine. Don't ignore this and put off seeking help. The doctor will be able to tell you if you have some bacterial imbalance or hidden infection. Also, it would be a good idea for your partner to be checked, too. The problem can be caused by numerous reasons. Part of your problem can be an allergy to spermicides or gel. A friction can make your lips swollen, especially if you are dry. Try to find some lubricant that is soothing you. Maybe your problem is causing your new underwear which has some synthetic fibers. These fabrics could cause your lips to be swollen. Also, the cause could be some vaginal deodorant or spray that you are maybe using. As I said, make an appointment with your doctor and find out what is really the cause of your problem.
