For a long time ago I have problem with anxiety. Sometimes I feel tension associated with psychoneurosis too. I tried a lot of drugs but last time I was on regular appointment my doctor prescribed me one new drug. Or at least it was new one for me, because I have never used Vistaril. I want to know more about this medicine if I am going to use it.

There are a lot conditions that Vistaril might help. Those are anxiety, tension with psychoneurosis, allergic conditions such as chronic urticaria etc. Vistaril is not a cortical depressant, but its action may be due to suppression of activity in certain key regions of subcortical area of central nervous system. Experimentally has been demonstrated primary skeletal muscle relaxation. Effectiveness of Vistaril as an antianxiety agent for long term use that is, more than 4 months has not been assessed by systematic clinical studies. Your physician should reassess periodically the usefulness of the drug especially for each patient. Side effects for Vistaril that are reported usually appear as mild and transitory in nature. Dry mouth, drowsiness, involuntary motor activity, including rare instances of tremor and convulsions are some of side effects that have been reported. Hypersedation is the most common manifestation of over dosage of Vistaril.
