A new research done by the Aberdeen University showed that regular vitamin intake did not help in preventing older people from getting an infection. Those who took vitamins and mineral tablets showed no better results than those who took placebo.
A group of 900 elderly people living at their homes participated in the research.
The researches were looking at contacts with doctors for infection, how long the infection lasted, life conditions, number of antibiotic prescriptions and hospital admissions.
The next research will include elderly people living at care institutions.
