It may happen that potato chips and french fries will soon come with a warning label.
A lawsuit was filed against nine fast food chains and snack-food makers. The main request is made for McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Frito Lay and other companies to warn consumers that their fries and chips may contain acrylamide, a chemical that by the statement of the state causes cancer.
The accusers said that they are not trying to tell people not to eat chip but want people to have information needed to make informed decisions about their food.
Frito-Lay spokeswoman said that there was no scientific evidence that acrylamide caused cancer. She also said that Acrylamide, a byproduct of chemicals and high heat, has been found at low levels in several foods, not only chips and French fries.
The accusatory is hoping for the sit down with the defendants to decide how large the warning labels would be and where they would appear on packaging. They want it to be simple and effective but the defendants are not returning calls.
