I fell off my bed, backwards, and my head hit the floor and my legs came over the top of me and my weight (197lbs) was applied directly downward onto my body while my head was tucked into my chest. I felt and heard a pop in my chest and my sternum is very sore. I am not having any problems breathing, but it does hurt when I take a deep breath, when I lay on my back and when I get up from a prone position. Could my sternum be fractured, broken or just bruised?

I think I fractured my sternum while sledding in the snow and crashing (rapid deceleration). I wasn't able to go to the doctor so this is a self diagnosis, but I've read up on it and it sounds like thats the case. An xray wouldn't see it and there's not much you can do to an injury in that location anyway. It was sore for about 2-3 weeks: it was only really sore when I sneezed, besides this it wasn't too bad; most of the time I didn't even notice it. An occasional ibueprofin helped. After 2-3 weeks it disappeared. Keep fighting!
