Hello.

There are many reasons why a period may be late, even if you had fully protected sex. Some possible explanations include:

  1. Hormonal changes: The menstrual cycle is controlled by a delicate balance of hormones, and fluctuations in these hormones can cause changes in the timing of periods. Stress, illness, changes in weight, or changes in medication can all affect hormone levels and cause a delay in menstruation.

  2. Pregnancy: While you mentioned that you had fully protected sex, there is still a small chance that pregnancy could occur if the protection was not used correctly or if there was a failure in the method used.

  3. Ovarian cysts: Sometimes, a cyst on the ovary can delay menstruation by disrupting the normal hormonal balance.

  4. Thyroid issues: The thyroid gland helps regulate hormone levels, and issues with the thyroid can cause changes in the menstrual cycle.

It's important to note that a period being a couple of days late is relatively common and may not necessarily indicate a problem. If your partner is concerned, they should speak to a doctor who can help determine the cause of the delay and provide appropriate advice.
