I have thick acrylic nails put on because I scratch to the point of bleeding. Cortizone helps but nails make it so I do less damage if I scratch. I would wake up with scratch marks because I was scratching in my sleep. It's worth it though. I would take itchy any day over how I felt before.

I took Wellbutrin for 1.5 weeks back in 2003 to quit smoking. I started to itch when the dose doubled, just 3 days in, and I itched for 6 months. Reactine in the day time, Benadryl at night for 6 months before it stopped. Ever since, once a year or so, I get a two month or so stint of the itching yet again, and all other allergies end up bringing on the itch rather than their pre-wellbutrin effects. I take Hydroxyzine (50mg) and a Zantac every night to control the itch, my Dr. says it is because my internal histamine system is working overtime now so the Zantac really helps. In my experience, 13 years later, the itch never goes away, sits dormant and returns whenever there is another allergic reaction flaring up. Wish I had never heard of the stuff, quit smoking on my own when I stopped the drugs, but this itching, it is truly unbearable. I too had to go to the gel nails or I was waking up in the morning with bruises and blood blisters from scratching uncontrollable in the night. No rash just intense itching on the bony parts of the body, jaw, hands, knees, ankles/feet.

After about 2-3 weeks the itching kicked in like crazy -- almost everywhere in my body. No hives, no rash, just the urge to itch.

I got off of it and after a week or two the itching subsided. I want to go back on it though because it really did help with my low energy. Any advice for someone who's experienced this?

wait so you continued to take welbutrin all this time? Did you have any side effects taking Zantac and Hydroxyzine so long?

I'm back on the stuff just to test it out and predictably after 3 days of taking 150 mg, the itch is just starting to come back. It's so good for treating my depression though I think I'll just keep taking it.

Been on Wellbutrin 10 years. Extreme itching for two months. Doctors, dermatologist, internist, etc. Go to pharmacy today to pick up ANOTHER prescription for itching and pharmacists runs a report on my meds. Changed manufacturers of my Wellbutrin. Guess when? TWO MONTHS AGO. I've been in agony, scratching my skin off. This is apparently not uncommon. Wish one of the four doctors I've been seeing had checked this out.

Throughout the years Ive had the same itching - tingling - crawly sensation with several antidepression medications. I gave up taking them because it wasn't worth this discomfort and am trying to find out if there are any that do not cause this as I still suffer from major depression.

I gave been told that but something similar happened when My insurance switched me to generic celexa. Greatly increased my depression and anxiety to dangerous levels. Had never happened before after years of use.
