Started with the generic Wellbutrin. After a week I started getting hives. Started taking benydryl with the Wellbutrin and again at night. The Benydryl kept it in check but the hives would start to itch again. Read about the difference between generic and name brand. After 3 weeks of generic I switched to the name brand when I refilled the prescription. After a week on the name brand my hives have disappeared and I no longer take the benydryl. Perhaps my body just got used to the medication however based on the reports of other users I am going to attribute the hives to the generic brand. Thankfully I live in Canada so the name brand is affordable.

My head itches like crazy, also I have worse anxiety, and sometimes I feel like I'm having jerking movements, skin crawling, moments of crying, and after the dosage is wearing off prior to my next dosage, I tend to be more impatient and irritable, aggressive. I've been told that I can't just stop taking the Wellbutrin,. I'll have to gradually take less until I can stop. How long does this take, my Dr. didn't give many details about withdraw

I have been on 150mg wellbutrin xl for 30 days. The palms of my hands have become unbearably itchy for the past 72 hours.
I have taken 2 benadryl and it stopped the itching. I'm stopping medication immediately now that I have done some research and found the source of my itchy palms is from taking Wellbutrin.

It’s 3:08 am and I cannot sleep due to my feet being so itchy ... I just want to scratch my skin off. I started the off brand of Wellbutrin 4 days ago .... my feet gradually worked up to being so bad now that I can’t sleep ... I’m not sure if I should continue this or call my dr... but I really wanted to see it through for a few weeks.. but I’m not sure I can handle another night of this....

Call your dr. Immediately, they'll probably tell you to stop the medication but they absolutely should know.

I had itching a lot in the first 4 weeks, I went off for a month or two and when I went on again it was fine.

I had been on Sertraline (zoloft) for almost a year for anxiety/depression. I recently switched to Wellbutrin XL 150mg once per day, because the Zoloft was making me gain weight. I started the Wellbutrin along with levothyroxine for low thyroid at the same time on April 17th and by April 19th I was itching from head to toe! I tried to deal with it, but by Monday it was driving me crazy. I reached out to my PC and she recommended stopping the wellbutrin for 1 week to see if it goes away and vice versa with the levothyroxine to see which is the culprit. After reading numerous website, and reviews im quite certain its the wellbutrin that causes itchiness. I stopped it yesterday and am still itching today. I read it could take up to 4 days or longer to leave the body, so we will see.

Hi there - can you please advise which manufacturer of bupropion was the one that made these symptoms appear? I had same problem and am weaning off after a short 3 weeks on bupropion. Id like to continue taking but the weird palm/bottom of feet itching is crazy unbearable.

I've been on Bupropion for ten years with no problem until about five months ago. My scalp started itching, no rash at all. I tried everything. It got worse, then I began having itching in other places without rash. Fits the description of neuropathic itching. A course of prednisone did not help at all, so my PCP prescribed gabapentin. That isn't helping either. I should have looked up this up months ago and saved myself all this agony!! Bupropion was prescribed for me to replace Zoloft, which was causing itching. . . .What can I say? If you are taking Bupriopion and itching--work with your DR to find some other antidepressant. Itching is not a side effect that will go away.

Several different manufacturers in different countries make their version of a generic medication. You might get one brand one month, and another brand the next—from the same pharmacy. There are certain manufacturers of generics that have bad side effects for me.

I am on day 5 tapering off opiates. Does Wellbutrin help withdrawals from opioids? Will Wellbutrin affect dopamine receptors?

I started taking Wellbutrin about a month ago and the itching started almost immediately. I went off for about a week and I thought it would get better. It helped a little, but since I was still itching, my psychiatrist told me to go back on Wellbutrin because my depression was getting worse. Well guess what, itching came back! And he's not listening to me about the itchiness being caused by the medicine. How do I tell him that I want off this medicine?
