Hi, my father is 77 years old and he has just been diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. This means that he will have to take extra care about his health from now on. Doctor also wrote that he has edentulism. What does that stand for? Is that another illness, should we be concerned?

I assume that you father, regarding his age, has artificial tooth replacements. Edentulism is an expression that stands for a complete loss of teeth. And we could call it an illness, but only if it happens in early years because of some condition. Of course, if the oral hygiene is kept properly, you should be able to avoid edentulism for many decades.
