I am starting day 5 after having C3-C7 discetomy with fusion and I still feel like I got hit by a truck!  I am supposed to leave my collar on for 30 days, not get my neck wet for 7 days, and not ride in a car for 30 days.  How the heck did some of you get morphine?  I was in severe pain for a month before surgery, could not even hold my head up straight and pain was shooting down both arms and all my doc would give me is 5/525 Norco, which help take the edge off but I been on those for over a year.  Since surgery he gave me percocet and robaxin. And that is all they gave me in the hospital too, every 5 hours.  A couple hours before the next dose I thought I was gonna die.  I try to stretch out the time in between doses but I can't deal without them yet. Doc said I have to learn to live with some pain!  I am or was a 43 year old active female, now I feel like a complete useless cripple.  I have degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and they said I am full of arthritis.  Two doctors told me I had more of a chance at being paralyzed without the surgery than with.  So that is why I had it done.  My quality of life living with pain had already gotten as bad as I thought it could get.  I know I had a lot done, and I am really trying to follow orders but I have never felt so bad for so long!  I am not trying to scare anyone who is facing having this.  I waited too long before I got help.  I hear everyone talk about numbness and tingling in the arms and hands, but I surpassed that 3-4 years ago and the numbness and tingling turned into severe chronic pain.  So don't put it off if you don't have to.  I gotta get back to work, but I am not supposed to lift anything over 2-3 pounds for 6-8 weeks.  This feels like the end of my life, but I am trying to be positive as I go further into the poor house!  Anyone with some positive feedback would be great.  Oh yeh, they told me not to sit in a recliner!  It is the worst thing for your posture, and the pressure kills me when I lie down.  I have been so exhausted I sleep sitting up.  I actually have just been sitting around in a straight back chair with my eyes closed, really don't sleep much!  I still have pain in my shoulders, neck, and back.  Every now and then severe pain shoots through my head, especially if I lie down.  Some good news is my throat really has not hurt that bad.  I have been able to eat anything I want.  The incision site is sore, but not too bad.

I don't have any answers for you but I will say a prayer for you, constant pain is something which nobody should have to live with.

Thank you for the prayers.  Maybe they are working.  It's been two weeks now, and I am feeling a lot better.  I just got done cleaning the house, even though I probably shouldn't have.  It's just a long recovery and I am feeling better everyday.  I sleep okay now.  Trying to cut down on the pain pills, which is going to be the hardest thing to do now I think.
