Couldn't the Dr. just go into the next room and get the penicillin I need without an extra trip to the pharmacy?

no, cause that would make things too easy for you and we all know that isnt the way things work. :|

Kimba can tell you better, but in short, your Dr doesn't know nearly as much about your drugs and how they react to you and together as you probably think he does (or, really much at all). I'm just saying. Your pharmacist is where its at.

So if you're allergic to the PCN, then the doctor would have to stock the Erythromycin, or perhaps the Doxycycline, or maybe a highpowered Cipro. They're not into $$$ for inventory.

it would be nice and convenient, but if you think of a pharmacist as a second opinion, you'll be happy for the second trip. They DO catch physician errors about dosage and usage and aren't afraid to question doctors. I not sure about pharmacists, but it appears that they aren't influenced by drug companies. For instance, I've had a pharmacist tell me once that there was a generic available for my prescription available and if I could call my doc and ask him to change the px, I'd save $$. They are cracking down on this, but I think some nonhospital based physicians still are very influenced by drug reps to "push" their brand.

i once had a pharmacist tell me she wasn't filling the two prescriptions i had given her unless i signed a waiver that what i'm about to do could quite possibly take the life of the person who ingests these two prescriptions together. it was practically deadly.

yeah, i signed. and no i didn't fill them.

Why isn't anybody asking what PH needs the penicillin for?

WINNAH!!!!
with all the drugs out there for different reasons it just does not make fiscal sense for a small practice to try to keep a stock of all the meds.

I agree. The vet never sends me to the pharmacy. I'm gonna start going there.

We actually had a bonehead patient who injected himself with aqueous Penicillin (intended for a horse) and he had a bad reaction to it and had to come to the hospital for treatment.
So don't self medicate with the rabies vaccine meant for your pet. I'm just saying.
