When I had my shoulder replaced about two years ago, my Doctor gave me a prescription
for Percocet. Took them daily (along with Lortab and Soma) about 3-4 per day. The pain
has continued for these 2 years, then I was diagnosed with the Shingles, inward in my back.
I had never felt such pain, excruciating pain like a knife in my back, constantly. So I took
more Percocet, Lortab, trying to alliviate the pain. NOT. Pain Management Doctor gave me
2 sets of Nerve Block Injections and that got rid of the severe pain. But I still took the Percocet
because of severe arthritis and other type of back pain. Now that I know the pain medication
didn't help me at all, I wanted to get off of them. I managed getting off the Lortab quite well.
Then I started weaning myself off of the Percocet. Gradually I went down from 8 Percocet per
day to 1 per dat, 1/2 per day, then 1/2 every other day, then 1/2 every 2 days. Then I quit.
It has been approx. 4 to 5 days since I took my last 1/2 of pill. I have hardly slept since, maybe
2-3 hrs per night. I get the night sweats, I have diarreha, muscle pain, lots of anxiety. It is the
anxiety that keeps me awake. How long will these withdrawals last. I am exhausted. I am
a disabled, 70 yr. old female who needs some rest. I started taking Excedrin PM, but doesn't help.
Please help me.

hello i also went through withdrawl from pain medication and the withdrawls can last up to a month drink lots of water to get your system flushed out and instead of the excedrin take benedryl the kind tht is rapid release any kind is good it will help alot for rest and with some of the withdrawl symtoms, when you go to detox benedryll is one of the main medications they give you along with muscle relaxers usually mild such as flexaril ,soma is a really dangerous drug if not taken as prescribed but will help with your muscles drawing up,(blood pressure medication) and they wing you down off the opiates which is the percocet i have to say that it is amazing you got through the loratab withdrawl! that was my addiction loratabs i got up to taking 30 a day till it almost killed me to this day i crave them but you have to take it one day at a time!.you can do it if it gets too rough, or just to be on the safe side maybe check in with you doctor or the e.r to be safe! again benadryll will help tremendously and try tylenol p.m for sleep and aches and pain,i hope this information helps you if you need someone to talk with i am available you can contact me i have been there and i would love to help you get through this so email me if you have any questions my prayers are with you

Thank you, savannahann24 for your quick reply. I am sorry I waited in answering your post, but I wanted to give your suggestions a try.
The first night I only took the benadryl, but no luck, it didn't work too well. I was wide awake until 4:30 am and my day has to start at
7 am. The last night I took the benadryl and the Excedrin PM and I was asleep by 1:30 am.
I spoke with my doctor and he prescribed Xanax only 1 at bedtime and nothing else. I know it is an addictive drug, but when my sleep
cycle gets back to normal, I will stop taking them. He said only take them when I cannot sleep. And I really intend doing just that.
Hopefully, later on I can get by with just the Tylenol PM. (Have a whole bottle of Excedrin PM and cannot afford to throw them away.
I cannot thank you enough for your encouragement and your prayers, I will keep you in mind.
As far as the Soma, I only take 2 per day, as my muscles tend to spasm in my sleep, and that seems to help. The Dr. Prescription calls
for 2/day. Thanks again for all your help, it really got me through the last few days.

Wow, it sounds like you went through quite a bit! I am really glad to hear that you posted a lot on your experiences and it sounds like it was quite an ordeal for you. Do you have any tips or anything like that for someone who's going through this aside from taking benadryl? Thanks!

savannahann24 - sent you a post on 7/24 - thanking you for your help. You really were a Godsend and helped me equite a bit.

The doctor gave me a script for Xanax - only took 4 -1/2 pills. Then I stopped and now am only taking Excedrin PM and Benadryl.

It really was touch and go for a while - but now that the anxiety has finally passed, I think I will make it. Thank God! I still have trouble
falling asleep right away and wake up a few times in the night, but I just turn over and go right back to sleep. But it is difficult falling
asleep before 1 am.

I still do as you said, to drink plenty of water ( I always drink lots of water, anyway) and I pray a lot.

Tonight my husband and I went over to my sister's for her birthday and we laughed and joked , it felt so good. First time for me in over
7 months.

I hope you are doing better also, I will keep you in my prayers. Thank you so much, With Gratitude, sassrose1
