I have used one form of an opiate painkiller everyday for two years. MTB racing neck injury got me hooked. Either tramadol, OC's, perc's, etc. and finally a Methadone taper down for three weeks. On forth day clean right now... and out of town with no scripts.
Withdrawls are horrible as everyone posts, but I have found Xyrem (prescribed to me for narcolepsy) to completely eliminate withdrawl symptoms, put me in a euphoric opiate-like state for about 4-6 hrs and is the only substance to help me sleep.
Xyrem has a huge abuse potential to some peeps but I have used it on and off for many years with no problems (except falling out in the wrong places) and mild feelings of emo fragility after I run out.
Dose response curve of Xyrem is very tight so doc =) will start you on a very low dose then work up to a higher dose. Xyrem lowers blood sugar so you must have eaten or drink a huge gatorade before using or you will get sick and/or pass out cold.
Lorazapam has helped quite a bit during the taper and being off opiates but now has little effect.
