Fortunately, I have not had a full stroke but I have had a couple episodes where I was going to drive myself to the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attack. I have been depressed and extremely moody with weight gain since I have started this pill about 3 years ago.
I want to get a cardiologist check up as my OB/GYN continues to prescribe this to me. I am getting no support from her...is there anything in the lawsuit that will cover this visit? I would also like to support this lawsuit in every way.

Hello my daughter is 15 and was put on the pill ( Yaz) to regulate her heavy periods, cramps. Today I just bruoght her home from the E.R. she passed out in the shower and hit her head, got her out and sat her on the toilet and she passed out again. Rush to the E.R. they ran a ton of test ,CAT scan ,blood work, checked her heart ,etc. They couldn't find anything and decided it must be sinus related ,gave her anibiotic and sent us home as if it was no big deal. She has been having headaches, feeling weak, tried, kinda just out of it for the last few weeks. She has been on Yaz for 5 months. NO MORE....I don't know if it has to do with the Yaz or not but it scared me to death when she passed out and if this is kinda going on with others it's not worth losing my daughter over... so take that for what its worth. Thank you,Mary

I read this board for the first time tonight and I second the warning DO NOT TAKE THIS PILL. I developed severe allergies(first) and later discovered I had a fibroid that had grown huge which had to be removed. I am still recovering from the surgery.

I was 18 when i got a pulmonary embolism from Yaz. I've never smoked a day in my life and there were no other reasons for me to have an increased chance of a blood clot. I've been looking to see if anyone has started a class action law suit. I'm not really wanting to deal with a court case, but i really don't think this should be on the market either. If anyone knows if there is or has been a law suit.
Thanks.

Hello last summer I started taking YAZ, within 5 days of starting I got really sick and ended up in the hospital for 5 days. I ended up having kidney issues and an enlarged spleen. They ran all types of test for months and could never figure out what the problem was. I never thought that it was the YAZ so I recently started taking it again. Once again within a week of taking it, I am having the sharp pains in my kidneys and spleen after I haven't had the pain for a few months now. After reading this, even though its not the same symptoms I think YAZ had something to do with it. I am 23 years old, never had any health problems before in my life.

Yaz if made for people who have PMD or PMDD... it works wonders for me and i have been on it for 5 months. I seriously do not know what i would do without it and it seems since i was laid off and am working freelance now without health insurance that i may need to do without it.

You have to talk to your doctors... not everyone is the same..that's the whole reason there are so many pills to choose from.

I would be interested in a class action lawsuit against YAZ manufacturer. how can we contact Alex. Without going into great detail, Yaz has done some major damage to my daughter after being on the drug for only 4 days. She ended upbeing hospitalized. She is only 27 and in good health.

My 29 year old sister was perfectly healthy with never any health problems at all. She started taking yaz about 6 months ago and recently began having very regular mood swings and just not 'being herself'. She was scheduled to go to the doctor at 1 pm 3 weeks ago to have some blood tests done, but she didn't make it. That morning my sister just dropped dead- OUT OF NOWHERE. She was 29 with a 7 month old and a 4 year old, and now they will grow up without a mommy. We aren't positive it was the YAZ yet because we are still waiting autopsy reports, but my whole family is pretty sure that is what it was. Since then I have convinced everyone I know to get off of it including myself and my other sister (who was her twin). PLEASE BE CAREFUL. I know it happens to 1 in a million people, but that 1 was my big sister- and now I will never have her back. Although all body types are different, it isn't worth your life to get rid of acne or not have PMS. Think about it.

I'm 26 and was just diagnosed as having a stroke while taking Yaz birth control. My roommate also had 2 TIA and a stroke that left the left side of her body numb while she was on Yaz 2 years ago (Age 24). What are the chances of 2 girls having strokes before the age of 30 when the only common risk factor is YAZ? I have been on birth control since I was 14 for ovarian cysts. Never had any problems until they switched me to the Yaz 6 months ago. I'm off of all birth control now per doctor's instructions. Just wanted to warm any girls out there wanting to switch after seeing all the positive Yaz commercials on TV.

look if anyone is taking yaz. i would suggest to discontinue taking it as soon as possible. i was on yaz for 3 months. and i had developed gallbladder dysfunction. i was misdiagnosed for over a year and a half. and finally had my gallbladder removed. i am part of a law suit to get yaz off the market because this drug has caused gallbladder and heart problem in girls as young as 14 years old. this birth control is the only to use a new hormone called drospirenone and this may be causing serious cardiovascular and gallbladder problems because there is little research on this hormone. if anyone has any questions, concerns, or just need someone to talk to about this feel free to contact me and if you are suffering from any of these problems you are not alone.

I just started taking yaz this week and I feel overwhelmingly nauseous after every meal. I've also had headaches. I just talked to my doctor and she told me to try taking it at night instead of in the morning.

I was prescribed Yaz for medical reasons when I was 25 years old. (Acne, cramps, heavy bleeding, irratibility) While it worked for all of those problems, it also gave me another problem! I developed major anxiety! I felt like my heart was constantly about to beat out of my chest, I couldn't eat, think about food, or even date, short term memory loss, and hard to swallow...It made me very depressed, but nothing in my life was even wrong!

I went to my gyno asking for her advice on switching and she told me to stay on it and that it wasn't the birth control whatsoever. She told me that birth control cannot cause those problems and then referred me to a psychiatrist and she told me that there was something else wrong with me. So instead, I went to a general town doctor to get a second opinion, he told me the SAME EXACT thing and prescribed me with Ativan...a prescription drug for anxiety. He actually spoke to me like I was very mental and imcompetent. It did absolutely nothing, so I finally made an appointment with the referred psychiatrist that used to also be a gyno and told me that it was not Yaz and that there was something I was internalizing that was wrong with me since I couldn't think of anything that was actually wrong. He put me on heavy anti depressants and anti anxiety medication... He put me on 200mg Zoloft (the MAX dosage btw) and 30 mg of Clonapazam. None of that worked either BTW... so after three months, I went to an old family doctor that reopened his practice, who FINALLY told me YES it is the Yaz that has caused ALL of my problems and then took me immediatly off of the Clonapazam and weaned me off of the Zoloft.

Long story short, I finally got better, but, my husband wants me to go back on a birth control for my pms irritability and I refuse! I feel like after reading all of this, I was on the verge of a stroke or heart attack! I should have gone to a hospital!

Hello:

I was just reading through these posts, and am just getting past all of the Carifairy (sp?) bashing in response to her response to another post recommending women 'get off of yaz'. ( I am on Yaz, for the record).

I'm not sure if anyone else stood up for her, but I feel compelled to do so. I do not believe that Carifairy was in any way trying to minimize the lived experience of any person who experienced an adverse effect while on Yaz. Rather, and rightly so, she was calling out someone who may or may not be a health care professional/expert in birth controls.

As a health care professional, I would NEVER recommend that someone stop taking something because I had had a bad experience. Firstly, it is not within my scope of practice to do so, and secondly, I realize that my lived experience does not make me an expert. I would, however, research these happenings appropriately (IE NOT on the internet), resourcing peer-reviewed studies on this subject before making a judgement for MYSELF only.

I agree with the statement made by a poster that physicians and other health care professionals are not experts. Heck no, we're not! But we DO typically have a wider and more-in-depth knowledge base than many lay people (although, there are MANY who are more educated than I on a great many health related issues). Saving this, we know where to look, and what resources (IE random sites on the internet) to take with a 'grain of sand'.

And what's with the outrage surrounding her asking if someone has the following comorbidities: obesity, high BP, smoking...there is plenty of research that shows that these comorbidities, in conjuction with the BCP place a woman at higher risk for adverse micro and macrovascular effects.

I truly believe that trusting your intuition and your lived experience for YOURSELF is absolutley imperative. However, recommendations to others based upon this, and without appropriate research to back it up is dangerous, and THAT'S what I think Carifairy was getting at.

I am a 39 y.o. non-smoker with twins. I have endometriosis and have been on birth control pills for years as a treatment for endometriosis. I was prescribed YAZ by my OB GYN because my current pills were no longer controlling my symptoms. She gave me 3 months worth for a trial. Once I had started the second pack, I started having heart palpitations and frequent muscle twitching. The heart palpitations were so severe that I couldn't sleep. I immediately notified my doctor who did some routine blood work and switched me to a different pill. The bloodwork came back "fine" and the symptoms stopped once I quit taking the YAZ. However, I seem to have frequent chest pains now and can't help wondering if it is related....I think YAZ needs to be pulled ASAP.

A year ago my husband's best friend died of a stroke caused by Yaz. She was only 22, healthy, nonsmoker and had no family history of strokes. I will never take this drug.
