Hello,
I have been diagnosed with mono and have spleen problems. It produces sharp pain on the left side of the abdomen. What are some other symptoms of problems with spleen when having mono? I guess I shall need further medical attention?

I have been having stabbing pains on my left side right under the lower portion of my ribcage. When the stabbing becomes incredibly intense, the pain often spread to my left side as well. I've noticed that a few minutes after I eat is usually when the pain flares to where it is unbearable. I recently had a lap-band procedure for WL done and everytime I've called their office about this pain they tell me it's just gas (in the same spot for 7 days?). They called me in an anti-spamatic drug on Friday and it hasn't helped at all. I can't get in to see my primary care doc until Wednesday and I have been to the ER already (before this pain became so bad) and they just told me it was normal for after surgery (including my newly numb left hand which also worries me).
Can anybody give me some direction since the doctors are unwilling to cooporate? |

I have exactly the same problems you have and like you my doctors haven't been that helpfull. I did have a abdominal scan and it shows the enlarged spleen. The doctor did tell me to exercise. |

6 months ago I had severe pain, left side, below rib cage, stabbing feeling.
At times this pain radiates around to my back. And at other times I am presented with lower left shoulder pain.
When discussing this with my doctor she sent me for aan ultra sound which showed several masses, then a mri showing the same, then a cat scan confirming this. I do have MS and was taking pain meds. to control the pain level, however it was not helping much.
A needle biopsy was then set up under cat scan. This procedure did not show what these masses were.
My primary doc. has been wonderful through this whole thing. Always there to answer my calls and my many questions. I might add that I am a MS patient so I don't retain things so well.
He has referred me to a cancer hospital whree another biopsy was recently done. Once again those masses are there, but the they don't
have any answers for me "yet".
I'll just keep taking those pain pills, hope they keep working, and hope for answers in the future. |
