Women who are battling infertility and trying to get pregnant, know very well the importance of using an ovulation calendar and charting their cycles, temperature, cervical fluid, and other things. However, most of them will find this process complex, tedious, and often downright confusing, especially if done manually, as many women still prefer to do.
Luckily, there are many ovulation- and period-tracking apps that promise to help with tedious charting process to all women who want to get pregnant or avoid pregnancy.
These fertility tracking apps range from basic period trackers to those more complex apps that are able to connect to basal body thermometers and other wearables and read data from them.
Fertility apps also use several methods, including calendar method, temperature method, cervical mucus method and symptothermal method that combines these three methods together.
Last week, we have reviewed Glow app, which is one of the most popular fertility apps that lets women track your cycle, basal body temperature, cervical mucus, symptoms, moods, and a lot more in a smart and intuitive way.
Today, we review another popular app called Fertility Friend, the most trusted and accurate fertility tracker, according to its creators. This app is an advanced ovulation calculator, menstrual calendar, fertility chart and period tracker. It interprets personal fertility signs of each user helping them get pregnant or avoid pregnancy. The app was developed from the website of the same name, whose content is ported to mobile devices.
Fertility Friend is free to download and use, offering more than enough features. It also includes a VIP (paid) membership at a price of $24.99, which may suit users who want additional features, such as advanced data analytics, a customizable chart, and the ability to view chart overlays of your past cycles, and much more. The app offers free VIP membership if they invite 5 friends to use the app.
The app requires new users to create an account and provide some basic information to help the app create the charts and predictions, including date of your last period, cycle length, and date of birth.
Fertility Friend app opens to a screen that features a calendar, showing the date of the last cycle, most fertile days colored green (I assume because it's not explained) and today.
To add entries for particular day, simply tap on any date in a calendar, which would open a new screen, allowing you to add basal body temperature (BBT), cervical fluid, period, spotting, and sex/insemination (yes, it sound strange, but that's how they call it).
You can also add daily notes, as well as other information, such as secondary signs, tests performed and devices used, specifics (which are basically symptoms), medications (if you use any), which are related to fertility/pregnancy, except for metformin. There, you can also track your moods, energy levels, weight, or you can add photos via Lightbox which requires VIP upgrade.
One of the most useful features in Fertility Friend app is Fertility Analyzer, which would tell you if you're fertile or not on a particular day, providing more detailed information via Conception Advisor. Just like in other similar apps, the more information you add, you allow the app to learn more about you, hence you'd get more accurate results and predictions.
Charts tab allows you to see a colorful chart showing all the data you track, with separate temperature chart. As you add entries every day, the charts would populate, showing your cycle's trends.
Data tab is basically a setting section that allows you to choose which data you want to track or exclude from tracking. You can also fine tune the app by tapping on the Settings icon on the top right, where you can also see all tools and options featured in the app.
Probably the most useful part of the app is its Analysis tab, containing different interpretations, analyzers, comparisons, graphs, stats, and predictions. Some of these are only available after purchasing Pro version of the app. But, whether free or paid, they all depend on the amount of data you add, which enables them to add accurate and personalized predictions.
As you could see, there is a lot of information you can add and track. Also, Fertility Friend app offers a plethora of other features, some users might find a bit overwhelming. Luckily, the app also includes tutorials to help users navigate and use the app.
Navigation through the app was a bit slower at times because the app requires an Internet connection to connect to the Fertility Friend website. Keep this in mind, to avoid any costs if you use mobile data.
Basically, the app isn't fully functional if you don't have the Internet. Also, the app stopped working at one point. I got an error that it can't connect to the website. I could return to the app, so I had to delete it and install it again.
The design is somewhat outdated, with not so responsive interface. For example, I had trouble opening some parts of the app, or tapping one section would expand another, and so on.
These things are a minor flaw, but they still need to be fixed, if Fertility Friend app wants to compete with other top fertility apps. It has a great foundation, allowing users to record and track more than just a period and ovulation cycle, but it also needs to pay attention to users experience, which is also the essential thing in mobile apps.
Benefit: All women who want to track their period, ovulation, moods, and plethora of other things related to fertility
Verdict:

- Includes a large amount of information, features, and tools
- Provides personalized results and predictions
