Hi, I’m 17 years old and got my menarche 13 months ago. I’ve always had regular cycle that lasts 5-6 days. Last month my period lasted 9 days and this month it prolonged on 10 days! I think that something’s wrong with me. I just couldn’t wait for bleeding to stop. What can be the reason for menstruation to last 10 days? Please post. Thanks.

Hello there. There are several reasons why your period might be late. Having a period of 10 days it is not definitely a normal menstruation so, you should see your gynecologist if you didn't do that already. Anyway, the first thing that I am going to ask you is next - do you have an intercourse, without using a protection? Because, if you do, it is possible that you could have conceived and that you had a miscarriage as well. That is why it is possible that you are bleeding for too long. This is why you really should visit your doctor in order to see what he has to tell you about this. Also, it could be that you caught a cold, but you need to see why this happens because you can't bleed for that long.

I guess that nothing should be wrong with you just because your period lasts 10 days. It is normal that period lasts from 3 to 10 days. Maybe you’re going to have 10-days-lasting period to the end of your fertile period. Also, there are some factors that can have influence on your period, like stress, taking drugs, immune status. If you haven’t noticed anything strange except your cycle lasted longer, that I guess there’s nothing unusual happening to you.
