It works 5 days after sex, right?Sperm lives for 7-10 days, right? So, if the sperm is still alive after 5 days would that mean the plan b has no effect at all?I had sex yesterday at 12, no noticeable pre-ejaculation and he didn't get to ejaculate. We had sex for about 5 minutes before I realized and took the pill 5 hours after 12, which was at 5pm, haha. Today I don't feel sick at all...but i'm worried. My period ended today and if there is any sperm, it would live past the 5 day mark for the pill, right? I'm just super confused with this all.5 days after taking the pill, 10 days for sperm to die, 5 days of no pill and no egg for sperm to have nothing to attach to since plan b induces a period to get rid of any chance of implantation? Explaaain...

Hi Kai,

Plan B "may" be effective up to 5 days.  Up to about 3 days the effectiveness is 85%, any longer and it becomes much less effective.

It is important to note that the Plan B website states: "It can reduce the chance of pregnancy when taken as directed up to 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex."

Sperm can live about 5 days at most, not 7-10.

Plan B changes the lining of the uterus and prevents fertilization so that it would be very unlikely that you could conceive.

You may/may not have any symptoms after taking Plan B.  You MAY notice sore breasts, spotting, heavier or lighter periods that are earlier or later than normal.  Not all women experience side effects and the side effects vary depending upon where you are in your cycle.

Hope it helps.
