d and c and Ablation procedure:
I have been cloting and bleeding for over 7 weeks. I am 40 yrs old and have had normal periods for 30 years. The bleeding became so heavy and scary that they performed an ultra sound. They found my endi. lining to be 24mm thick. They then scheduled a biopsy and a procedure to fill my uterus w/ fluid to get a better look at what was going on. There was a growth and due to the thickness of my lining they could not get good pics of what was causing this. They scheduled a D and C and then recommended an ablation since I won't be having more children. During surgery they put me out and I don't remember a thing. I actually woke up in a daze and announced to everyone in the room that I had great sex that morning...weird! They had me get dressed, the Doc said she removed 3 polyps that don't appear to be cancerous. Ok...on my way home ready for a meal and a nap and God almighty the pain began...Excrusiating, unbearable pain!! For the next 5 hours I laboured. It felt like I was giving birth to a baby elephant w/out an epidural. Why was I not prepared for this? They told me there would be cramping and discomfort for 12 hrs....Are you kidding me?? I was begging to be hospitalized 4 hrs in.
One of the problems was I was vomiting so much the pain med were not able to work, but also I was only givin Darvocet. I said no thanks to Vivadin cause I hate it but they should have prescribed percocet or something way stronger. If I were to ever do this again I would demand in-patient surgery so I would have a nurse to care for me and a morphine drip or something greater than I had. Sorry gals...and maybe I am alone in this...but it was horrible!! And it was on my 41st b-day..happy friggin b-day.
Also...they say you are 100% the next day..no way! I could barely walk or open my eyes the entire next day and could not get food to stay down until wee hours in the morning. It has been a week and I am still having very heavy cramping and discharge. It's not dibilitating, however I need to put my feet up and use heating pads every few hours and must take 800ml of Motrin every 5-6 hours.
Do not believe this is a walk in the park! And make sure your children are not home and someone is w/ you to rub your back and get you through the worst of it. Ugg I'm having nightmares about my poor little guys hearing their momma moaning and screaming in pain, what an ordeal! Anyone else experience anything close to this? Am I just a big baby??

I experienced the exact same thing only my pain started the minute she started the surgery my body spiral out of controll from the pain. Vomiting cramps so bad I could not even verbalize my thoughts. My doctor ended up leaving me on the obgyn table for 3 hours before deciding I was going to have to be admitted into the hospital. I agree if you decide to have this surgery do not do this in an office do this in the hospital so you can be treated and not left on an obgyn table in hopes that you will get better on your own. I ended up dehydrated and in the hospital overnight.
