I recently had the vericocele repair (left side) last Thursday. I've looked on my websites to determine how my recovery would be so I figured I'd share my story for those of you that are in need of the surgery or determining whether you should have one.
Day 1. Thursday....Surgery scheduled for 11:30. Surgery took about 2 hrs. In recovery room for an hour. Left hospital at 3pm. They make you pee before you leave which wasn't a problem for since they pump you full of fluid. I was surprised that I could move around as much as I could. Just relaxed that evening with multiple ice packs.
Day 2. Friday... Swelling was pretty bad but better than expected. Could walk around but it was slow. remained all pain meds all day. Ice packs all day
Day 3. Saturday. Wife and I actually went out to a friend's b-day party. I wore a pair of loose jeans but I made it through dinner with little discomfort. (Only issue was that fact I felt bloated and constipated). On day of surgery I weighed 174 lbs. evening of day 2 I weighed myself and I was 183 lbs......not to be gross but going to the bathroom was a real issue and it wasn't until almost 55 hrs later that took place...
Day 4. Sunday...the groin area started to bruise and turn a light yellow/purple. iced all day and relaxed
Day 5 Monday....tried to return to work but the thought of tight suit pants didn't sound good to me just yet so worked from home. very little discomfort....I can walk around without a limp but not quite ready for the gym yet..didn't take any pain meds..
Day 6 Tuesday....returned to work and suit pants.....not much of a problem...walked the dogs....all the weight is gone back to normal...actually lost 3 lbs I think from not working out and watching what I eat....the yellow/purple bruise is gone.....still using ice pack
Day 7 Weds....i say I'm about 85%....no gym yet but I'm walking around with little or no discomfort...every so often I'll have a shooting pain but it goes away....
Day 8 Thurs....just about same as yesterday..icing in the evening....
I have follow up next week and I'm pretty sure I'll return to gym in 3-4 days....won't know if this surgery helps the SA until test results in 3 month.....overall not a bad experience in my opinion...doc said only downside is the recovery period which was not bad in my eyes....
that is my story.......
