I'm going to a gyno for the first time next month, and I want to get on birth contol pills. Does anyone know how long they take to start taking effect? I haven't had sex yet, but I probably will be sometime soon in the future. Also, I read something about birth control pills not working as effetively on people who are overweight, which I am. That research was from 2 years ago though, so there may be some updated information. Does anyone know anything more about that? I'm in my 20's, but I feel very naive sometimes. I haven't had a whole lot of experience with guys, sex, etc. Any info anyone could give me would be much appreciated!!

it usually takes about a month for it to take effect. but always use other methods of protection duriung sex as a backup. use condoms because birth control pills dont protect against diseases.
the pills work good as long as u take it around the same time everyday. i say go for the pills because they are good in the long run in regulating ur period and also making it shorter.. i hope it helped. :-)

The pills actually only take (at most) a week to start working. It may or may not depend on the brand you chose to take. Depending on the day you start taking your pill on it may be effective right away, or it might take a week. I would continue to use a condom though for a while just to be safe, or constantly if you two haven't been tested for stds. Im not sure about the overweight aspect, I would ask your doctor.
