I have a 7 year old that has always had a very strong bladder. In the last week she has to go sometimes every 20 minutes, and it is very urgent. She says there is no pain when she urinates and it is always very clear. Any ideas what might have made this drastic change?

My kid seems to have exactly the same problem right now. She is 4 years old. Just the past Thursday, she started to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes. I took her to see the doctor on Friday. She had her urine checked and it was negative. The doctor said she probably had bladder spasm and asked us to be patient and wait and see for 2 weeks or so. Now 3 days passed with the same behavior, going to the bathroom every 10 mins. I set the timer to be 30 mins but she acted like she could not hold any more and I had to let her go. I am very worried about her but I try not to put any stress on her. What should I do then and when will she be better?

I just went to the Dr. with my daughter yest,, She is 4 yrs old and wets her pants a little several times a day and can pretty much pee at any moment. I didnt know what was going on so yest we went for an ultrasound and see the Dr. He said she is having bladder spasms.. could last a week, could last 9 months.. who knows.. There is no med.s that a child this young should take for it. All meds out there are for older patients... What I learned:
* She can not help it so dont make her feel bad by showing frustration.
* NEVER ask her to hold her pee.. "training your bladder" is a myth and if there is anythng to it, It will only cause pain physicaly and maybe mentaly for the child because with Bladder spasms, she will fail everytime.. again, she cant help it
* get pantie liners to absorb moisture and make changing underwear less frequent
* tell her you want to know when accidents happen and when she tells you, make sure she knows its ok and its not her fault while supporting her to keep trying her hardest and shes doing a great job

This is what I learned.. I hope this helps. I cant wait until this is behind us because it can be a pain in the ass,

Hi brenlewis5

How old is your son?
He could have an underdeveloped bladder or an over active bladder.
Is he having trouble with holding his pee or wetting the bed.
If you haven't already and depending on how old he is it would be worth taking him to see his family doctor to see if he should be reffered to a specialist to see if there are any problems with his bladder.
