I woke up this morning with blood flecks around my eyes, in fact it looks like I was punched in both eyes. Any ideas what it could be?

In the eyeball or actually around the eye - in the skin. It could be pink eye, exertion that blew your veins, a bad bang on the nose, etc. The veins in and around your eyes are VERY sensitive. If you can't explain why - if it looks like it is infected and is sensitve you might have hurt yourself or got an infection such as pink eye. IF there is not apparent reason, go to the doctors. And get it checked out, could be more serious. Always start at the explainable and then if that is checked off go to the doctor OK? Please let me know how everything is.

Niixen,
Not sure what you mean by blood flecks but If it's around the eyes most likely they are some broken blood vessels. That can be caused by intense crying, blowing of your nose repeatedly, or blunt truama to the face. They should go away within a day if in fact they are blood vessels. If they remain for more than a few days go to the doctor.

I wonder if its an allergic reaction, I was part of a habanero chilli eating competition the night before. I didn't eat any, just marketed the competition on the night. The flecks are around the eyes, in fact if you were to be punched in the eye, the whole area that would be dark/black. They are not irritated or sore, they just look terrible. Spots are about 2mm apart and probably 100 per eye.

Habaero chilli is one of the most potent of the chilis. I will tell you a story that happened to me, and I think the same is true about yourself. I had some dried habanero chillis, I put them in my hand and made chili! a shower later I went to put my contacts in and wham my eyes looked like they were punched! So now I know that dust from the peppers is your likely candidate, they are basically a VERY harsh anti histamine. And you have had a reaction. If you have some cucumbers put some slices on your eyes, to lower the puffiness and redness - also potato slices work too. Have you ever heard of a netti pot? A netti pot can be found at a health food store, It is a little teapot, that you put warm water with salt in it. You tilt your head sideways over a sink, pour the spout up your nose and let it run trhough your sinuses, out the other side. It WORKS like a breeze, and will get rid of any remaining pepper spores in your nasal passages. You can also use a cup with warm water with a little bit of salt in it, it is a bit messier though. Cold compress's to difuse your broken capilaries and make you look better for work!!!! And keep away from those little red devils!!!! >;) :$ XD

Wow, that was definately the missing link - the peppers! That has got to be it. A little visine and rest and in a few days you should be fine. See your doctor though if symptoms do not resolve.
I love the netti pot recommendation. I have yet to try one but have heard such great reviews from everyone who has used them.
Bambi - have you personally used the netti pot and if so, I would love to know more about it. I saw it on Oprah some time ago and was quite intrigued. I need to just go down to the health food store and pick one up.
Let us know how your eyes are shortly!

Hi Brenda: It is the best thing ever created, right behind Swiffer Dusters!!!! XD ;-) All of us have used it for headaches, sinus pressure, colds, flu and nasal dryness. Did you know that people that use netti pots on a regular basis are 1/3 as likely to have the common cold - and especially it will cut the duration of it in half! The cold and sinus's and the flu start from your nasal cavity, so flushing it out and keeping the area moist is the best practice - after washing your hands. Actually one of the main reasons why you have to wash your hands, is that your hands don't go anywhere near your nose!!!!!!! It takes a few try's to get it right, but if feels FANTASTIC. You can feel the warmth of the water going through all of your sinuses, if you get it wrong it can come through your eyes, into your ears, down your through etc. But it's harmless because of the saline is the same as your body secretions. ALSO if you do have an infection in your nasal cavity, did you know your can put Acidopholus capsule - broken open of course - and the bacteria in the water will attack the infection!!!!!? It's great I have talked all my friends into it.

Wow, flecks of blood in the eyes? So you mean that it's not just like pink eye or anything like that, but it looks actually like you have blood in them? I suspect that it's a burst blood vessel because that happens from time to time, but it could also indicate something worse. I definitely think that's worth going to see a doctor for. It doesn't sound like it's anything serious, but I wouldn't want to risk anything affecting my vision! Let us know what the diagnosis turns out to be. I'm rooting for you!
