Hi. I am currently taking birth control pills, but I think I will stop. I have experienced breakthrough bleeding. The bleeding is light, spots really, but still I fear. Sometimes I bleed between periods. Are birth control pills the cause of my breakthrough bleeding? What to do? Anybody with the same experience?

Hi. Breakthrough bleeding can be caused by taking the active pills or hormonal contraceptives, but is mostly cause by an excessively thick uterine lining. Nothing to be worry about. I also bleed between my periods, and it lasts for 1 or 2 days. However, bleeding between periods can be a sign of cancer, or ectopic pregnancy. I always keep my menstrual diary. Depending on the cause of you problem, therapy may include dilation and curettage.
