I am 36 years old, mother of two (17yrs and 14 yrs old). I breastfed one for 6-8 months and the other for only 3 weeks due to low milk production.
About three weeks ago while putting on my deodorant I discovered swelling and tenderness in my armpit. I then followed the swelling down to the side of my breast and found a hard immovable knot over my rib next to where the breast tissue begins. I have constant dull pain in my armpit that never goes away. I have been experiencing shortness of breath and feel like my upper lobe of my lung doesn't expand. I have had screenings for arthritis which come back normal. My doctor gave me a Decadron shot to see if it may be due to inflammation, it hasn't helped. I am scheduled for a diagnostic mammogram and chest x-ray and was given an appointment to see a surgeon to review the test results. Should I be worried?

The last sentence of your post was direct. Should i be worried? Anyone would be worried, that's how were programmed. Some worry more than others. I would be one of the ones that would worry myself into hysteria, and many times, for nothing.
Just take a few deep breaths and push on. It could be 100 things, we won't know until you see the Surgeon. I suggest that you stay away from internet medical sites that tell you what it could possibly be, you will be a basket case. Please come back and let us know, we are here for you if you need to talk.

I have pain in armpit radiating down the side of breast, do I need to worry? There is also some swelling. Contact with clothes make it worse.
