I have sex w my bf maybe once a week. I take my birth control EVERY day and have never skipped a pill since I went on it three years ago. I often skip my placebo/sugar pills and just take the birth control all month in order to skip my period that month (not good, I know). My question is, a week ago I took the placebos in order to have a periodand instead of red blood like usual I got dark brown blood, and a lighter amount than my usual moderatly heavy red flow. Is my body attempting to regulate my perioods or...?

Hi:
My first thought is that your body is trying to regulate your periods. The pill is funny. If you don't take it as prescribed, you can become irregular. However, if there is a chance that you may be pregnant, take the test and see. Be sure that you've waited long enough before taking the test so that you can get an accurate answer. Then be sure to confirm your home test results by having a medical professional test you. It's not a good idea to alter the pill schedule that you should be following. You will continue to have irregularities. It's good that you are using protection, but the pills are a drug, a chemical that is altering your bodies normal schedule. You should not play with that process. Good luck....Let us know how things turn out.

I would hazzard a big quess that it is your body regulating your periods. I took some hormone therapy several years ago, that stopped my period for a year - due to PAINFUL periods! When I decided to get pregnant again, I wanted my period to start, so at first it just came back lightly, then WHAM!!! The only advice I really want to give you is this! Years ago there was this commercial (can't remember what it was for) but there was a woman on it saying "It's not nice to mess with mother nature!" And I've always believed that statement. A womans hormones are a very sensitive thing indeed, so for you to stay on the pill, then off etc etc. Can be quite dangerous for you, including but not excluding your heart! So please try not to do that. My old obstertrician actually made a fortune by cortorizing a womans uterus so she wouldn't get a period!!!!!! I was so disgusted with him that I stopped going to him. Even though it sucks, having a period every month is a HUGE sign of how we are health ways! Other than menopause, and being a pregnant, a woman NEEDS to shed her lining (period), It made me nervous when I was on the pills, and I will never know the answer too if the disability my child was born with was from taking those pills! I don't want to frighten you of course, just letting you know that sometimes "It's not nice to mess with mother nature" so talk to your doctor about getting a different pill, I know there is new BCP's that really reduce the length of your period and some of them allow your period just a couple of times a year. So please talk to you doctor about those, instead of taking things into your own hands OK? Good luck and health

o.O o.O o.O Ok! just letting you know that some women can still experience a period even though they are pregnant. Did you know that this has increased substantially in the last 20 years? Some researches actually believe it is from all the hormones we injest from meat and other additives. So please use protection, because one day you wont be getting your period and it will be too late. Tak care!
