I was receiving dust and mold allergy injections in late 2006. After one set of injections, I developed a searing pain in my left arm for approximately three days. The pain slowly subsided, but my arm began to weaken. In September 2007, I was diagnosed with arm onset ALS. There is some thought that the mold toxin could have been the trigger event. Does anybody have a similar story? Allergy injections seem to cause much harm with little benefit.

I just started getting allergy shots about 4 weeks ago, I get them bi-weekly and until this week the only thing I seemed to notice was extreme fatigue. I mean, I get out of class and sleep from 4pm until 7am the next day kind of fatigue.
Just this week I reacted to the shot - unlike the other injections, this one hurt when administered, kept hurting for several hours, swelled up to about the circumference of a ping pong ball and itched. Now, two days later I have moderate joint pain all over and a weird rash all along my spine.
Looks like these are all definitely directly related to the shots.
You all have to remember that they don't always work for everyone - I mean, we're getting injected with the things we're most allergic to. Any reasonable person has to expect that it is going to put their body under some sort of physical duress.
If your symptoms are negatively affecting your daily life but you have noticed less severe allergic reactions thanks to the shots, ask your allergist to step the strength back down a notch!

The first time I got a shot, I started having tingling sensations on my back neck, forehead, and lower back. My Doctor says that the allergy shots don't cause these types of side-effects, but I know for fact that they problems started as soon as I started taking the shots. Since I stopped taking the shots, I no longer experience the tingling and the additional pains from my wrists, shoulders, knees, and Achilles tendon.

I got allergy shots and started getting a stiff neck first, but didn't think anything about it. i got about 10 serum shots in about 2 months and then got a really bad flu like illness that wouldn't go away for 2 months so I stopped the shots and got onto other things so I didn't go back. During that same time after I stopped my face started getting all puffy and big even though i had gained no weight. Then a few months after that I went from extremely low body fat and perfect six pack abs to gaining weight in the first time in my life and lots of it. My skin strarted to tear and had lots of scars. I also noticed that I had neuropathy in my legs, strange tingling all over and felt like water or ice. A year after that I got an extreme dull burning pain in my chest that would never go away. Then I started getting TMJ, tinnitus, vertigo and general myalgia all over. I also had a loss of energy. I've had all this for 5 years ever since those shots. I started to wonder if those shots could have caused all of this, but they never warned me this could happen in some people. I have lost years of my life and all the treatment for this condition I have now was not covered by insurrance and nobody can provide me with a cure either. I've mentioned this to some doctors and they didn't think it could happen, but I'm going to follow up on this some more. I've seen every kind of doctor except a few, one of which is an immunologist / allergist. I called a few places, but all they want to talk about is giving you these shots, they don't do anything else.

Contact me on this forum if this has happened to you. See if you have myofascial pain syndrome and if it started with a stiff neck when you started getting the shots. Other health problems may have coincided such as peripheral nueropathy among others. You would think there would be some reports of this in trials and doctors would warn patients if this were causing a chronic disease like this. Send me a PM and I think the site will send me an email notifying me of that.

I have been building up my allergy shots for years. I recently had a few instances of joint pain and hives after receiving an allergy shot. The most recent bout of pain was so severe I had to go to the ER. With each instance, I brought it to the attention of my allergist, including the most recent. The doctor rebuffed by claims as if I was crazy and made the whole thing up, and discouraged me from stopping the shots. She said she'd never heard of such a reaction and that I probably have arthritis. I'm 38.

The only new thing introduced to my body each time was the allergy shot. It cannot be a coincidence. The lack of compassion and openness to understand what I was going through from the allergist has soured me for the whole profession. I will NEVER get another allergy shot again. And, I intend to write the state medical board regarding this doctor's egregious misconduct.

I started getting allergy shots 4 weeks ago - I am 45 and had allergy shots as a child from like age 7-10. They did not effect me at all. I moved to a different state 6 years ago and my allergies were horrible. Anyway, since receiving the shots, I am irritable, achy, my muscles just ache - my back and neck hurt and I am fatigued. My chiropractor tells me allergy shots weaken the ligaments - and I have needed an adjustment every week (when usually I go every other month or so) I am receiving two shots per week - 1 in each arm. I called the allergist today and she said she never heard of any such symptoms - that I may be a medical miracle - that nobody even notices the allergy shot. I am not sure if my side effects will go away as I build immunity. Not sure what to do........ I know that I have felt horrible since I started allergy shots.

I know thisis an old thread but I thought I would check back.  Did anyone's aches and pains from the allergy shots go away totally?  I had one shot with terrible aches and pains (and lymph node involvement) and I am just hoping it goes away.  Thanks

I am not having any symptoms anymore.  It has been 10 weeks and all of a sudden I have adjusted to them.  I am back to getting a chiropractic adjustment once a month instead of every week.  I do take a histamine pill before I get my shots and I have been really focused on eating right - I think it just took some getting used to.

i have th same symptoms as everyone here ... i started to notice after an uptick in dosage, about 5-6 weeks into the shots.  of course, my doc said the same as everyone else's ... if it's not in the literature, you a whackjob, hypochondriac.  such is the medical model.

I have been receiving allergy shots since Jan 2007. I am now on monthly shots but every time I get one it burns and my shoulder aches and I feel a little short of breath. Then a couple of days later I get some chest pain. This has been going on for about a year now with no change. It does subside but it is the only constant I see. I hope this help in your quest for information.

I'm glad I found this site. My son had health challenges when he was younger. We had a stretch of about 4 years that nothing happened. Since he started allergy shots he has now as of today broke the same arm 3 times. Now that can't be a coincidence. He is also experiencing weight gain, pain in his back and neck and is fatigued more than usual. I have decided to stop the allergy shots. I've had the allergist tell me that the shots wouldn't cause these side effects. But the first time he broke his arm was just four to five months after he started these shots. Lately he's really been complaining more about his back. We just started on his second maintenance bottle. What I don't understand is when we started his first maintenance bottle which are just once a month shots why are we having to get shots every two weeks for the first four shots in the second maintenance bottle before we go to once a month. Does that make any sense?

I have been receiving allergy shots for 3 1/2 years.  The shots have always made me stuffy but they have worked. I have noticed a huge improvement in allergic reactions to my allergens and i also went from being sick, with colds, constantly to almost never. However in the last two years i have been falling apart and have had so many other health problems.  Last summer i started getting a rash when i was in the sun accompanied by severe pain in my neck, throat, and over my shoulders, along with this also comes extreme fatigue but sleeplessness at the same time. i saw several doctors and they could not figure out what was wrong. I spent about 6 months absolutely miserable and barely able to function.  I was in my late 30's and going through college for the first time and really starting to wonder i would be able to hold down a job because i couldn't function.  The symptoms somewhat went away over the winter but returned again this past spring.  My allergist office got a new doctor in and he actually listened to me and ran some test. I have now had two tests come back positive for lupus.  Finally thought i was getting some answers, until the rheumatologist said that it doesn't appear to be lupus and he really can't explain why the tests are coming back positive.  I started noticing that there was a connection between these flare ups and when i get my allergy shots. In the last two years i have ended up in the emergency room countless times and have been on steroids so many times i lost count.  When connecting the dots with these flare ups and allergy shots there is no doubt in my mind that the shots are causing this. Needless to say i have stopped the shots and now i am hoping that my symptoms will go away and that i do not have any lasting effects from these shots.
