I have a patch of sebaceous prominence on the right side of my shaft about half way in between the head and base, some, if not all the cyst like structures having a hair of some kind coming out of it whether it be dark black or very vague white-ish hairs.

Well my issue is that every now and again in that same area or very close to the same area the bump will turn a little red and fill up with some puss, i just wipe it away and it goes away in a day but returns from time to time in the same area of the bumps. There is no pain, MAYBE some itching but barely noticeable, no blisters of any type, no scabbing, no rash or pain, just what looks like a small, slightly raised pimple with a small yellow/white head that i pop.
I just got back from the clinic as i was afraid it could be an STD, I explained to her what happens and she just stated this tends to happen b/c the region is oily and told me NOT to come back in when it fills up (I was looking to get a culture but she is confident it is nothing) but i am still worried.

I am no stranger to skin issues, I have had acne on my face and back for 10+ years. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem?

Please let me know,
Terrified

The doc was right! Sebaceous cysts do tend to fill out with puss. In some men, the puss is always present. Don't squeeze them because they may get infected that way and lead to inflammation that can be painful.

Really? Because I am having the same problem and I am pretty much scared to visit my doctor, I am scared what he might tell me. I was talking to one friend of mine and he told me that doctor may require a sebaceous cyst removal, which was definitely out of my mind! Look, it is important to know what is the cause of this cyst, I think. I agree that you should never squeeze it. I have tried once, I need to be honest, but I was in pain so I give up on that idea. But I am scared of the possible removal.

This seems to remind me alot of the post I made just a few minutes ago. I dont know if I can delete them or not, or if I should... anyway, spots like these are usually caused by bacteria in the oil used to lubricate hair follicles. I think its like having a spot on the face. The thing is, it can be off putting to have a spot growing on the groin area. What I mean to say is, its unlikely to be a virus, and so, unlikely to be an STD. A second opinion never hurts if you would prefer that way, and there are specialists out there. Shame I cant get the courage to go to the doctors about it, as my local doctors has a woman who really isnt specialised in that feild and would only waste my embarassment :-)

THANKS GUYS!!!!

The thing that worries me the most is the fact that i can recall this happening for the last 4-5 years, always the same cyst or at least the same area of the sebaceous patch (by patch i mean 20-40ish smallcysts on the right side of my shaft). I pop it every time it happens, rather, pretty much just stretch the surrounding skin and it releases the small amount of pus, then its just slightly red.Probably happens 2-4x a year, thats what has me worried.. I have generally OILY skin but i'm still unsure.

Any more information would be greatly appreciated... Does anybody elses "refill"

Thanks again

This only started happening to me about 2 days ago and it scares me. Mainly because I dont like the thought of it undermining sex :-( I would ask the doctor for something to help keep anything unwanted at bay. Do you have any tips for how to tell my mom I want to go to the doctors or get a cream from the pharmacy? :-) To simplify,I would say it could still pose a problem, if not a serious one.

I have had the same issue myself. I have had Sebaceous prominence for a while now. Sometimes it is more noticable than others. Over the past couple of years some of the bumps get larger and are filled with a clear liquid. They can pop easily and an oil substance comes out. Then it is red and takes several days to a week to heal. I hav e noticed the inflamation of the bumps comes after masterbating or sex where afterwards I notice an irritation or redness most likely from lack of lubrication. Also recently they have been inflamed from the hot weather and sweating. I have oily skin and usually have a few zits on my face. I am 26 years old. I would imagine that having sex while they heal is a good idea and not to masturbate. Does this sound normal? Anything to help the healing if the bunps pop and ged red?

I have them too and they do "refill" if you just pop them. They form when the Sebaceous gland in a hair follicle is blocked, so it keeps making "sebum" and swelling into these cysts. When they are popped it breaks the skin which heals over, closing off drainage again beginning the cycle over again. From what I've researched it is easiest to "remove" the gland when it is filled. From personal experience it is easiest to remove them before EVER being popped. Just make an incision right next to it(small ones only need a knife tip poked under it from the side) then it can be squeezed out in it's entirety. Older cysts that have been popped several times are harder to get out, I'm guessing since they have healed/adhered to the skin, and may require a little "digging".

I'm no doctor though.

I'm a nurse dear and I have worked with many different people all sizes and ages. I am also married. My husband has 2 areas on the shaft right under the head. They are simply enlarged pores that fill up. We apply very warm compresses and gently express the material out. the compress loosens the the sebum and eliminates the pain. Next month we do it again. No pain, as you said minimal itching. Fyi, as long as skin has pores on it, it is subject to fill up with body oils, that is what sebum is.

I also put a few years in the county clinic. We see it all! Seemed @ least once a month such a complaint would make it's way in. I can't remember when the Doctor did anything. The pt. would get a referral to a dermatologist if he chose. Then if the Pt. chose to go, the dermatologist would simply express them and charge a whopping bill. something you can do yourself. Heres the deal. After you shower wash and dry thoroughly. express material gently between thumb n 4-finger. You may dab it with your favorite acne med. A Q-tip works well. I would go to bed with blanket only if youre able to leave them open to air. Heres a tip. ty to keep the area clean and dry as possible through the day. Use regular corn starch, if the area gets itchy or irritated. Corn starch helps cut don on moisture. Good Luck, CWLoweR.N.. ;-) ;-)

Men imagine how you would feel if a girl had a cyst on her inner thigh. Well Lucky me I have the same thing not directly on my pink parts but close enough to be scared and embarrassed. Here's the deal find a person to sleep with you can share all of the icky, things our bodies do and take that "In sickness and in health" thing seriously. Heat to open the pores and gentle remove what you can. Wear a condom because you are a larger target for STDs with any open wound
