My son is 17yrs old, 6 ft.,and 165 lbs........the doctor wants to put him on seroquil. He has out bursts of anger now, and can be out of control. He has been on Lithuim, depakote, clondine, and a number of other drugs. But he is off them now and they want to put him on the seroquil. I see that one of the side effects can be anger...............can someone help me. Oh he is not at home, he is in a boys facility (for the behavior problem, not from being in any trouble. He can't seem to function at home, and everytime I get him into a facility, they end up closing down, or changing everything around.) I just want my son to be able to function like a normal 17 yr old. He is a VERY lovable person, and still has some of his boyish ways..............Any input would be appreciated. Thank you

I am very sorry to hear about the problems your son needs to go through at this age.
I can tell you one thing…..it is true that seroquel is a very strong drug with possibly strong effects, that makes one sleepy a lot, and has a bunch of other side effects but it doesn’t have to mean that your son will develop all of them. I suppose some side effects need to be present at first but you need to find a drug that will work.
Has he been seeing just one doctor since the problem started developing? If none of the previous drugs helped, there must be one that would “hit” the right thing. But it is not easy and it may take some time until he finds what suits him right and what may help.
It may also happen that he finds a drug that helps his anger but causes a bunch of other side effects. In these cases, doctors and patients usually need to see if the benefits outweigh these side effects and if the patient can deal with the side effects and get used to them.
I am not going to tell you what to do, you better talk to the doc and see if he thinks that your son could benefit from it and not just giving him the drug just because nothing else works.
I hope you will find a way soon! Good luck to you and your son!
