I had a granule of caustic soda fly into my eye about 30 minutes ago, I immediately washed it out with running water for 20 minutes, the remaining residue apears to have worked its way into the corner of my eye, my vision is perfectly fine, I am wondering if it is absolutely necessary to see a doctor?

Well this has happened to me more than once and every time I did exactly the same thing as you did. Every time everything was just fine. But when this has happened to me for the first time I was so scared and I was thinking that my eye hurts so I went to see my doctor. Waiting in front of the doctor’s office was a nightmare. But when I have explained to my doctor why I came first he didn’t smile that much and he has examined my eye and afterwards he has told me that I am just fine and he started to laugh.

So if you don’t feel any itching, pain and your eye isn’t red I think you don’t need to see your doctor but in case that you experience anything unusual definitely go and check it out.

It happened to me while i was commissioning Air Scrubber system in Bisha,Saudi Arabia. The caustic IBC was raised above ground, as it was leaking and dropping down, I wanted to put a tumbler under that unfortunately a drop of it fell on edge of tumbler and splashed into my eye.

The moment it happened it was terrible pain spreading all over brain nerves and 90% lost vision in my eye for 2-3 days and got cured gradually.
