regina627 , I am sorry to hear that this stupid cortisone has given you this same frustrating side effect. But, the good news is it does get back to normal after a while. I have been given the damn injection on Sept. 22, and since that time up until december I was on a weird cycle of 14-15 days, when I had been on a perfect 28 days cycle all the time. This gave me so much trouble, because we were also gonna start trying for a baby around this time. Prior to that I've been given an MMR vaccine, and I had to wait for 3 months, and when these 3 months of waiting had passed, I had been given a cortisone, and that's when it all got really screwed up. Man. I was so frustrated, and angry too, because I asked the doctor before receiving the injection directly: will this stuff affect my cycle, I am planning a pregnancy, and he said, no, it's safe. So in the midst of all of this, I went to my gyn, frustrated and depressed. She told me that this side effect does really exist, but it manifests itself pretty seldom, according to her, so in her words, this other doctor is not to blame, usually it is safe to get this injection. She also said that it's gonna get back to normal, and that I just need to relax.
So, in December, I got back. So, please, try to relax and give yourself time to get back to your normal schedule. Try to forget about this problem and don't get to fixated on this, because I WAS. And it was horrible. I felt like my perfect watch had been just broken, and felt horrible about it. Why hadn't I go online and researched this? Why was I so careless? Well, in other words, as soon as I relaxed, it got back to my normal cycle. It's all going to get back to normal after a white, you just have to wait a little.

Never happened to me.
Have had shots in the shoulders for arthritis, never interfered my period. Have had taken pills twice and nothing happened either. I'm very irregular because of a thyroid condition, so I have misperiods for whatever reason. Never had one when I had shots

I too received the shot almost a month ago and when my period started 15 days ago, it has not stopped. All I can say is, "THANK GOD I FOUND THIS SITE!" I was very scared but now my mind is at ease. I will never get another shot again. It didn't even work that well for my fibromyalgia.

Like many of you, I'm somewhat relieved to have found this thread. I'm 58 years old and have been post menopausal for three years. Two weeks ago I received a cortisone injection for bursitis in my hip. Exactly a week later I started to have very light spotting. I've just been to see my GP and he says he's never heard of a connection between cortisone and post menopausal bleeding. He says that any bleeding after the menopause has to be treated as suspicious until proved otherwise and he has made an urgent appointment for me to see a gynaecologist. It's very worrying.

So happy to have found this forum...I feel like I'm not crazy anymore! My daughter (age 14) had a cortizone injection in March for severe allergy issues. In April she came to me (very unhappily!) and told me she's been bleeding for weeks, so we went to the gyn who wanted asked about everything under the sun (so disturbing for my young daughter) and when I mentioned the cortizone shot, she said, "Oh, well that's the problem!" No prediction for how long it would last and she wanted to use birth control pills to regulate. I said no because I felt like that would add more problems. It's still happening, so she's had it for two months so far. She's a dancer and is really hating all this bleeding.
THEN...three weeks ago, I went to the same allergist who gave me a steroid injection for my asthma, and now I'm bleeding and bleeding. I started about 3 days after the injection, bled for 13 days, stopped for about a week, and now it's on again. Blech. The mood swings really stink and I'm struggling with all the same PMS symptoms I always do - water retention, food cravings, weepiness, irritability, etc.
But at least I know I'm not alone!

Girls, the bleeding WILL stop eventually. It lasted for 2 months in my case, and got me nearly crazy. During those 2 months I had 2 periods a month, all bloody and accompanied with all of the pleasant things as mood swings and acne. It'll be over, but nex time think twise before getting a cortizone shot.

I've had a very regular cycle for my adult life. (I'm 35.) I had a cortisone shot 5/13 for a sore neck (it didn't help with the pain) then had a normal period 5/18-23, then this suspicious bleeding began 6/1 and is still going- no cramping and it's not heavy, but it's worrisome and annoying. Blood work-normal, had an u/s sound today, after reading these posts I suspect my u/s will be normal too... I guess I'll wait it out... any tips on how to get the cortisone out of the system more quickly? Thank you

I have been going out of mind with worry but now feel positively better after reading all these commenets. I originally had an epidural/steroid for pain inlower back/legs from 2 slipped discs on 21st July 2010 which was the day after my cycle finished. I then started bleeding 21 days later which lasted 7 days (usually every 23-26days lasting 4 days max,REGULAR!). I then had to have a further 2 steroid injections on 19th July 2010,one in each side of the sacral illiac joints for inflammation/arthritis pain- 11 dyas after i have started bleeding again-very light and not really painful but it did put me in to panick mode which is why I searched for any other simular scenarios and i'm glad to see I am not the only one. I am due back this Tues for maybe more and will mention this all to the Dr then.

Like several of the above women I have been post menopausal for exactly five years. In March I received a steroid shot in my lower back and exactly 10 days later I started a mild period that lasted five/six days. Then nothing until this past week, which was exactly 10 days once again from another steroid shot I had in the same place in my back. I almost freaked, thinking uterin cancer, etc. until I found this post. I will still have it checked out but feel much better knowing that others have had this same experience. Thank you for sharing.

I just saw my OB-GYN today for the same symptoms - irregular and constant bleeding for the first time in my life. He asked if I had gotten a cortisone shot, and I had (for my knee). He said that in women, cortisone is converted into estrogen, and that estrogen overload causes irregular bleeding.

Also, my OB-GYN told me that if I stop the cortisone shots, my body will gradually return to normal cycles in a couple of months.

I am 61, had a cortizone shot in my shoulder two weeks ago and started my period a week ago. I am still flowing at a good rate, like I did when I had my period, and have been very concerned. After finding this sight, I feel I can calm down and just let it run its course. If I am still flowing after 3 weeks, I think I had better get checked. This seemed very strange to me since the doctor's nurse said the shot should not have caused my period to start.
