My television viewing is almost exclusively crime shows, i.e. Forensic Files, Snapped, 48 Hours, Most Evil, US Marshalls...and on and on.....Somehow, I think that I will be safer if I watch these shows and educate myself about the potential evils of mankind. However, I have a friend who thinks that these shows will eventually make me cynical about life and people. I am so intrigued, however, and I don't see that happening. What do you think?

Can see where your friend is coming from, but it seems to all be relative. It is good to be aware of your surroundings at all time and think in terms of precautionaries, but living in fear is not healthy for anyone. I grew up with a father who was ranked very high in the police force and as a result gained a lot of street smarts and common sense that deems priceless. I like to find the good in everyone, and try to hold onto that no matter what I expose myself to in the TV world.
Thanks for the post - intriguing.

I am a crime show freak myself. Snapped is my all time favorite. I am also into CSI's and Forensics, including Dr. G.
It just depends on how far you let your mind wander, i just find them very interesting.
If the neighbor next door shot and killed her parents because they would not allow her to see her older boyfriend, i would not look at all my neighbors that way. And each time i saw a younger girl with an older guy, i wouldn't day dream about her shooting her parents over it. This really happened and it was re mixed on Snapped.
What bothers me is all the stuff on stalking and seriel killers. Any freako could be watching this and get ideas. I find biographys on these people fascinating, but i don't watch over my shoulder and i certainly don't entertain the thought of stalking someone then offing them!! You are curious, that is human nature. I am also a hugh Court TV fan.

While I can understand the attraction in watching crime shows...it's like a traffic accident, you can't look away. We all know the type of people depicted in those shows exist, but using them as a primer on what to be afraid of isn't a good idea. I believe a person can surround themselves with so many negative things that it begins to affect their own lives. It may sound like mysticism, but I think evil draws more evil. There are just some things I don't need to give permanent space in my head.
