I have also had a back problem for 9 years and yes I was also a very active person & I know how you must be feeling.I was offered surgery but I turned it down as I was told it wouldn't resolve the nerve damage.I found water waking was great as there is no preasure on your back when you are in the pool.It is very relaxing, just to move around the pool in your own time with no pain.I find laying on my side is more comfortable than sitting.I have also got very depressed over my back problem.I punish myself many a days by doing things ETC:gardening, mowing lawns going for walks, but I am in so much pain afterwards or during the activity I have to stop and lie on the couch. Many a days when I get out of bed I am like an old lady, even doing the vacuming, dishes, mopping, washing & etc is a reallie big chore for me but I do it in my time.I do Hope you can get through this pain and that your family & friends are there suporting you.ALL THE BEST. :D :D

Thank you for sharing the info. with me. I do get depressed at times, when I think that I have to live with this pain. I am still awaiting an appointment with a doctor. I've been told that I will have to do an MRI of the spine and hip, sounds expensive. Since my stroke, I am always tired, doing the small chores around the house sure cause a lot of pain (ie: changing the sheets on the bed and folding the laundry). I no longer do the cleaning of the house, fortunately I can afford to hire someone to that for me.
Does anyone know if there is a pool built for exercising, that is not too deep, since I can not swim. I think I am afraid to start lessons at this time. 8-|

Hi, I have been living in sever pain for 2 1/2 years. I was first told that I had (RA) Rheumatoid Arthritis. None of the medications worked. The only alternative was Fibromyalgia. I've been seeing a RA specialist for two years and no change in my condition just testing out different medications. Lastly I've been on Cymbalta and a medication so I could rest at night so I do not have to feel the pain. I was determined to find out what my problem was. The pain is certainly not in my head. So i started chiropractor, massage, physio, exercising...Nothing worked. My right leg to the knee would burn and my back. I would use cold packs on the burning pain. My left hand is always in sever pain also. I could only use cold packs on my hand. As soon as I touched warm to hot water my hands will swell up and the pain was more severe. Finally my Physio therapist investigated in my situation. He thinks I have TOS Syndrome. (Thoractic Outlet Syndrome) this is when a rib is touching your nerve and stopping the blood flow down to your hand. Well I am now waiting for a specialist appointment. Finally i had enough and asked my doctor for a CT Scan. The scan showed pressure on my C5 to C7. He then refereed me to a spine surgeon. The surgeon suggested I do an MRI cause the CT Scan did not show much. Well I finally did my MRI and the results was "Narrowing of the Spine" I am now waiting to see a surgeon due to "narrowing of the spine" is a serious medical condition..
I hope this helps

I fell 3 years ago down icy steps and landed on my left hip,i didnt and couldnt get up right away. I did only an xray cause our medical system sucks, they found degenerative arthritis in lumbar 5,i have severe leg pain that is triggered by doing too much or weather changes. When i move certain ways i hear a clonking noise in my back, which leads me to believe that the bones may be rubbing together.I wake up stiff each day and it takes me an hour to start moving well.I had to quit my job, being on my feet all day as a hairdresser, and enroll in school trying to get another degree in teaching hair rather than doing hair. I had to give up my passion because of this, and i applied for a medical card and got denied in the state of louisiana,so i could get myself checked out further financially. It sucks i have always worked and put into the sysyem, but cant get anything out of it. thanks

I am writing this to the person logged in as a guest. I hear you saying you want to take your morphine and just go to sleep and end it all. Morphine will deaden your "light" that is your spirit within you so please take heart and don't go down that road. Sometimes pain and suffering are ways to realize that the brief time we have on this earth is the time it takes to come to the knowledge of God. That is what it is about. Please turn your eyes upward and seek to know Him. Call on Him, not just for relief but from the depth of your heart, make an earnest cry and call out to Him. You are not alone. Get yourself a Bible and start reading the gospel of John.

I have all the same dignoses.
I am doing the "INVERSION TABLE" Wow, What a difference. It's not a 100% fix. but it has given me relief.
Don't knock it til you try it. Look on craigslist in your area for someone selling theirs, a cheap way to try it.

Back in 2003 at 26 I had a Laminectomy/Discectomy to relieve pressure at L5-S1 on the right side. In late 2008 I ended up with a herniation on the left side. Have had 2 micro-discectomies and I am still having issues. I am currently on the Fentanyl pain patch 25 mcg/72 hrs and 8 percocet daily. I have been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and also take a biologic called Humira a non biologic called Arava and a couple other meds for stomach issues. I have recently been told that I have a broad based posterior disc protrusion at L4-L5 into both foramina and mild bilateral neural foraminal narrowing. The lateral recesses are significantly narrowed bilaterally and the L5 nerve root may be affected, which I know is for the simple fact I have pain in my leg hip and foot. So far the doctor I have been dealing with at The Pan Am Clinic in Winnipeg Canada seems to be looking in the right direction. It looks like there may be a 4th surgery in my near future. As for narrowing of the foramina im not sure what the steps for that is, but I would just like to be able to get on with life. I have been off work for 3 years now and cant seem to get any further ahead. Drugs help a little, physio hurts A LOT. If anyone has any insight as to how this is fixed, a reply would be a great appreciation. If you are ever in Winnipeg and your suggestion pans out, I am willing to take you out for lunch or something! I wouldn't wish back pain on my worst enemy! I know what you are all going through, those of you suffering as I do. I feel your pain., LITERALLY! Heres hoping you with back pain find a fix, and here's to good back health!

OMG,i sit and read all of your situations, and just thaught ya might want to hear a doozer of a situation.so 17 years ago i took a flight of stairs the wrong way.frm the top stair to the bottom, with none in between. i then crawled to the car(couln't walk,or stand) with my face in the seat and me on my knees, was driven to the nearest facility.i then crawled in.they shot me up with demerayl and took exrays.when the doc was looking them over i heard him tell my husband that i would have permenant nerve damage. since then i have seen too many doctors, that have done all kinds of things.acupuncture, trigger point injections, lidocaine drips, tens units,I.D.E.T,holistic healers...etc. i know now that to date ,forminal stenosis,¢ral spinal stenosis,i have degenerative disk disease(6are gone),cervical stenosis, slipped disks, herniated disks, space narrowing(with and without signal loss) bulging disks, bone spurs, fibromyalgia, asthma, mortons nureroma(both feet need surgery)reflex sympothetic Distrophy, sleep apnea, dieviated septum(again) bilateral facethypertrophy, loss of feeling in many toes.(have had both hands carpatunel surgery(,need it again)had endometriosis(age12 it started, after manyd&c's,&laparoscopys,&lazor surgery..at 30 they took it all) had 3/4's of my top rib removed, cause the rib below was broke and noone would listen to me,and after 6 months of complaining lost circulation to my arm(i'm a beautician).much more, but heres the big one last week my doctor read the exray from 17 years ago,and told me I BROKE MY PELVIS AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN HOSPITALIZED,SO ? I NEED A GOOD LAWYER.! ANYONE GOT ONE? NEVER GIVE UP,WHEN YOU KNOW THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG!!!!!!! WELL,NOW I GO TO A BACK SURGEON!!! WISH ME LUCK!!!

ask to go for a mri and see if they will do the die injection to see if there is any nerve problems or blood flow problems. if your insurance coves it,you are worth it. only you know your body, they dont...good luck
