I'm with Kattz. I am a solid back of the packer and I don't care who's encouraging me, I'll take it whether it's meant to be condescending or not. Most of the time I have found the lead dogs to be very supportive of us penguins in the back. I respect that.

Now, if you're getting in my way as I slog my way to the finish, that's another story. But if you're along the side shouting "great job, keep going" to someone who looks like they're about to toss their cookies, that's cool with me. :)

i am a mid-to-back of the pack runner, and i'm always flattered when the "fast" folks swing back around to cheer me on.
not only does it let me know that i'm almost there, but also i like the feeling of community and support.
i think it would be easy for very good runners to not acknowledge the rest of us, and it makes me feel like an important part of the running community when they do!

The only thing that bothers me is when I see the finishers doing their cooldowns I'm thinking to myself how slow I must really be running. On the other hand it also helps me to kind of gauge how much further the finish line is so it works out.
