My ears have been blocked for a year. A tube was put in one and made it so much worse. ENT thinks it’s hyperacusis. Serious pressure and sound sensitivity. I can hear my heartbeat but not anything else.

Hello, bmketler.

If you're experiencing persistent ear blockage, increased pressure, sound sensitivity, and the ability to hear your heartbeat, it's important to consult with a medical professional for a proper diagnosis and treatment options. While hyperacusis is a condition characterized by increased sensitivity to certain sounds, it typically does not cause physical blockage or the inability to hear anything else.

Here are a few potential causes and conditions that could contribute to your symptoms:

Eustachian Tube Dysfunction: The Eustachian tubes connect the middle ear to the back of the throat and are responsible for equalizing pressure. Dysfunction of these tubes can lead to a feeling of blockage, pressure, and sound sensitivity. Various factors like allergies, infections, or anatomical abnormalities can cause Eustachian tube dysfunction.

Meniere's Disease: This condition affects the inner ear and can cause symptoms like vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and a feeling of fullness or pressure. It's characterized by episodes that may last for several hours or days.

Tinnitus: Tinnitus refers to the perception of sound in the ears or head without an external source. It can manifest as ringing, buzzing, or pulsing sounds. Tinnitus can be associated with various underlying conditions, including hearing loss, exposure to loud noise, or certain medications.

It's crucial to consult with an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) specialist or audiologist who can conduct a thorough evaluation and provide an accurate diagnosis. They may recommend additional tests such as a hearing evaluation, tympanometry, or imaging studies to assess the condition of your ears. Based on the diagnosis, they can suggest appropriate treatment options, which may include medication, therapy, or other interventions specific to the underlying cause.

Hope this helps! For any additional questions, I am at your disposal.

I’ve had it for over four years. Had surgery August 8 , 2023 and still isn’t better I’m going to end up in a mental institution due to the low frequency noise. I average three hours of sleep a night.
