Interesting, I have never heard of this before. Here is what I found out.

An iatrogenic illness or disease (also known as Iatrogenesis) is an inadvertent adverse effect or complication resulting from medical treatment or advice, including that of psychologists, therapists, pharmacists, nurses, physicians, and dentists.

Some iatrogenic illnesses are clearly defined and easily recognized, such as a complication following a surgical procedure. Some less obvious ones can require significant investigation to identify, such as complex drug interactions. Causes of iatrogenesis include negative effects of drugs, chance, medical error, negligence, unexamined instrument design, anxiety or annoyance related to medical procedures, and the adverse effects or interactions of medications.

 Examples of iatrogenesis:

- Risk associated with medical interventions

- Adverse effects of prescription drugs

- Over-use of drugs, (causing - for example - antibiotic resistance in bacteria)

- Prescription drug interaction

- Medical error

- Wrong prescription, perhaps due to illegible handwriting, typos on computer.

- Negligence

- Nosocomial infections

- Faulty procedures, techniques, information, methods, or equipment.

Hmmp... I learn something new everyday! Thanks for the question.

Yes, some medical errors are clearly defined such as mind was...but completely ignored. Secondly , In most situations the event may be investigated. But when a steroid like kenalog 40 was improperly used .....and not monitor properly bad things happen to the patient. Besides that the drug kenalog 40 is a very, very strong drug when stopped abruptly. That was totally wrong on the part of the physician. and this caused my body signicant damages. My advice to anyone is to get everything in writing when a doctor keeps the name of a drug a from you...instead of the doc, just saying its a steroid...insist on the "NAME'. Thank you Geeze for reponding
