 i know that it's problably alittle to late to be writing this but i just wanted to add my opinion, i was 16 when i had first gotten preg. but i lost it after the first month...then the next month my parents had obligated me to take the depo-provera shot, i had taken it 3 or 4 times it's been a few months and i still have not had my period and im starting to worry...i really want to have a baby in the future but i am afraid that i never will....i really would love to feel how it is to have a big round belly and know that there is someone in there that loves me as much as i love that someone, i really think that it's a beautiful thing and even though you go threw all that pain and throwing up and all that, it's still worth it....i would love to have that blessing....but from what i am hearing.....it's gonna be a mission imposible.....

i was on the shot for 3 years straight without a break.... Been off now for 2 and a half years.... My periods are regular and i am ovulating regularly but no baby yet.....I think I may just need to give it some more time. The doctor said everything was fine and maybe my husband should have his sperm count checked.... So that is the next step for me

I too was on Depo for 5 years. I stopped taking the shots in 2003 and have yet to have a normal period. I am on birth control because I did not want to get pregnant just yet but now me and my husband want to start trying and I'm getting worried. (also, I'm horrible at remembering to take the pill so I'm a bit suprised I'm not pregnant yet). I stopped taking my bc a few weeks ago and no period....I usually go a couple months and then get it for a few days but I haven't have one since April or May, can't remember. I have fertility issues in my family already and am concerned because now my Dr. is saying I will probably have to get on medication to "jump start" my ovaries into ovulating!

Why can't some scientists research this and find us an answer?!?! I am fine with adopting but it still hurts as a woman to not be able to have a child with the man you are in love with. We were going to adopt anyways but after we had one of our own...now that may not be an option.

I also, like so many of you had problems with the depo...I took it after I had my daughter at twenty...only took it for two cycles because I was so irritable...with rage, depression, and wt gain. I then went back to estrogen based b/c. I have had three miscarriages in the past year...they finally decided to start testing me to see why. My progesterone is low... This is an outrage. the FDA needs to make these problems more public. I am not into conspiracy theories but can anyone say "population control"? I have no doubt in my mind that those precious souls were lost because of the little time I spent on depo. I also had bleeding for thirty nine days after I got off of the shot. anyone have information on class action lawsuits?

After two pregnancies when I was 25, I had a Depovera injection. After that, I have never become pregnant again, even though I have never taken contraceptives. I had not realised that there were problems with this injection. I have also had Clomid, but without any success.

I was 15 when i got on depo after having my son. I stayed on for 2 and a half years and stopped taking it at 18 because me and the father of my first son wanted to try to concieve again. Its been 1 year and 2 month and still no hope. I really wanna become pregnant again befor my son is to old because I want my kids to be close in age but he's about to be 4 in Sept. and im still not pregnant. My periods are still not regular and they last for 16 days. Depo has really messed me up. But I still refuse to give up so wish me luck and i will let you know of any change :)

I went on Depo-Provera following the birth of my daughter. I was on it from 1995 - 1999. I experienced a huge jump in my weight the first year (I come from a long line of women that are short and stay around 100 lbs their whole life). I have not gotten my high metabolism back since then, and have found it impossible to get rid of the weight. Worst of all, even though I married a wonderful man in 2000, we have sadly been unable to have children together. It took over a year before my periods even started after I went off the drug, they were abnormal for about another year before I even conceived, but it ended in a miscarriage in the first month. Since then we have had 1 to 2 conceptions ending in first-month miscarriages almost every single year. My husband is obviously fertile since I can conceive, and they've found no genetic abnormalities in him or his sperm that would be likely to cause the miscarriages. I have been to at least 4 doctors and had every test in the book run on me, none of them could find any logical cause. I asked about Depo, although a few said the Depo might be a possibility, they all said that the clinical trails of this drug showed only "temporary" infertility. Since I had no problems before I took the drug, and nothing but problems since then, I feel strongly the Depo Provera is the most likely culprit for my issues. And if it is, 9 years could hardly be called temporary, so I really feel mislead by the manufacturer's claims about the side effects. In light of my medical history, it's only logical to believe that in some people, some of the side effects can become permanent. The extra weight I can live with, but I do not recommend this drug to anyone who has any chance of changing their mind about having children anytime in the future.

I actually started taking Depo in april thinking it was a blessing xD. Well, they told me that you can only take the shot for 2 years and then you have to give it a rest before taking it up again. I stopped taking it because the only bad thing I got from it was achne and I usually don't get more then one a month. Well, the doctor told me that it takes some time for the injection to get out of your system. I don't know if it can affect you in the long run but maybe the long use of it can affect you trying to get pregnant?

Only people with cancer should take these drugs. Depo provera can damage the endocrine system. The drug companies bribe the FDA to get these drugs made legal. If you're young, healthy, and cancer free stay away from them.

Do you have any proof of this? I don't mean to sound rude but it doesn't sound very likely that they'd have something on the market if it caused serious damage, although I know some drugs have gotten through before. Can you let me know what evidence you've heard of this? I would appreciate it. Thanks!

i have experienced the same thing with depo. i started taking it when i was 16 because my mother basically begged me to get on it because she didn't want me to get pregnant early. i took depo because i knew my mother was right. i stopped taking it when i was 18 because me and my fiance at the time wanted to have a baby. with no protection or birth control i haven't been able to have a baby at all. i'm 23 now so since i've been trying since i was 18 it's been 5years with no success. yes there is definitely something not right about depo and i really regret choosing that as my birth control at the time. my husband is supportive all the way, he knows how long we've been trying so i am blessed to have him. i honestly don't think it's right for them to withhold information from patients knowning that it's likely in the future we can change our minds and be ready for our children. my cousin told me that her friend took depo and it took her five years just to get pregnant. it shouldn't even take that long but we still have people out here thats been trying longer than that so i feel for everyone dealing with not being able to get pregnant when your ready because i have been dealing with the same. the crying, worrying, depression and just mainly feeling like why me, am i ever going to have a child of my own, that actually comes from me. not from adoption, invitro fertilization or fertility pills. some of us actually want to do it the natural way like the next woman did or can. it doesn't have a good feeling, also my doctor told me that the depo i took a loooong time ago could still be in my system and just thinking about it makes me mad. it doesn't make since to me because normally i hear it takes 3 months for depo to leave the body but evidently those people who got pregnant 3months after stopping was lucky because it sure as hell didn't happen that way with me. sooo when my doctor told me that, that futher lets me know that depo f**k me and alot of people up. it may not be permenant but it's bad enough we try so long any one with permenant infertility my heart goes out to you and i believe in miracles and possibilities so don't give up. please everyone wish me well i just finished my first cycle of clomid hoping to achieve pregnancy this month fingers crossed. and it wouldn't be right to leave without sprinkling baby dust on all the ladies who are ready to concieve for the first time and the ones who have kids and want more.

I DO BELIEVE THAT DEPO DOES CAUSE LONG TERM INFERTILITY. I TOOK IT WHEN I WAS 16 UNTIL THE AGE 19 SO I WOULDN'T GET PREGNANT YOUNG. MY MOTHER BEGGED MY TO GET THE SHOT AND I KNEW SHE WAS ONLY TRYING TO MAKE SURE I DIDN'T GET PREGNANT SO I CAN FINISH SCHOOL WITH NO RESPONSIBILITIES BUT FOR MYSELF. I HAD THE IMPRESSION THAT IT WAS SUPPOSE TO PREVENT YOU FROM GETTING PREGNANT AND WHEN YOU STOP TAKING IT YOU COULD GET PREGNANT ANYTIME YOU WANT. WELL ME AND MY HUSBAND HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HAVE A BABY FOR 4 YEARS NOW AND STILL NOTHIING. I'M 23 NOW AND I STOPPED TAKING IT AT 19 SO I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IT HAS NOT HAPPENED. I'VE HAD TEST, IT WAS ALL GOOD, MY HUSBANDS TEST WAS ALL GOOD.NOW THE ONLY THING I CAN THINK OF IS THAT DEPO MESSED ME UP. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT DEPO COULD STILL BE IN MY SYSTEM AND THATS CRAZY AFTER 4 YEARS. MY COUSIN SAID IT TOOK HER FRIEND FIVE YEARS TO GET PREGNANT AFTER TAKING DEPO. IT ALL DOESN'T MAKE SENSE BECAUSE I RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT IT ONLY TAKES 3MONTHS TO CLEAR OUT YOUR SYSTEM. WHICH IS MORE CONFUSING BECAUSE PEOPLE GET PREGNANT ON DEPO AND PEOPLE GET PREGNANT RIGHT AFTER STOPPING.BUT SOME US ARE STILL TRYING WITH NO SUCCESS AND IT'S SAD BECAUSE IT'S NOT SUPPOSE TO WORK THAT WAY. I'M HOPING IT DIDN'T CAUSE ME PERMENANT INFERTILITY BECAUSE ME AND MY HUSBAND HAVE BEEN PATIENTLY TRYING AND WAITING BUT NOTHING EVER HAPPENS. IT'S A SAD SITUATION WHICH MAKES ME SOMETIMES CRY. BUT NOW I'M TRYING CLOMID FOR THE FIRST TIME AND I HOPE ONE OF THESE MONTHS IT'LL BE THE HAPPIEST MONTH OF MY LIFE. MY FAMILY KEEPS WANTING TO KNOW WHEN ARE WE GOING TO HAVE A BABY BUT WE DON'T EVEN KNOW THE ONLY ANSWER ME AND MY HUSBAND GIVE IS IT'LL HAPPEN SOON.

i like alot of the other women on her that have responded was on the depo shot young i was 14 when my mother begged me to go on the shot so i did and as soon as i was old enough (16) i got off of it bc a few of my friends had told me that they heard that it could cause infertility and as an normal girl i wanted to have children in the future well i'm now 18 and engaged and my fiancee and i have tryed for a few months to get pregnant and it hasn't happened yet and i was wondering if the depo shot could have been why and all of your posts have helped me to figure out that it may have been that because i was so you thank you for sharing your stories and does anyone think it would help to take fertility drugs? and with the menstral cycle stories mine have been pretty normal stating on the same day each monyh but i'm like 4 days late but they've only been that normal for about 6 months so i don't think there's much to worry about there bc they were changing days every month
