Your age explains everything!!!!! Like we say at work "Karma always comes back around". So GOD forbid that when you are ready to start a family that you don't have to go through the heartache and pains of a pregnancy loss or never getting pregnant. You really need to think before you type on this type of discussion board.

When I was 18 I took depo for a year. I forgot to get my next shot in time and I started the worst period of my life lasting almost a month in a half. However unlike the other poster's here I've never had an issue conceiving. I conceived my son just after that hellish period stopped. However even as a teenager almost 10 years ago I knew that Depo could cause future fertility issues. So my OB/GYN informed me that you should always go six months on, three months off.

If it does cause Infertility, I don't think anybody should take. Teens hae a choce to have sex, or not. There not smart with protection. They should be, they could of not had sex. Maybe they would get prgnant. There is alot of people out there who wans there own child that they can connect to. There is probably alot of children out there, and people who can't get pregnant should try adopting. They may not be blood, but They will be like your child.

How rude are you? How dare you get on a forum of women who are possibly infertile and rant and rave about how adoption is such a wonderful alternative? So it's possible to breathe through tubes and walk with crutches but it doesn't mean you don't feel cheated...
Why can't we be entitled to have healthy bodies too - this is a place we should be able to support each other, not be judged by pathetic 18 year old girls who have never had issues with this so 'What's the problem?' I don't wish ill of many people but hope your comments come back to you one day and when you wish so hard for something so natural that you can never ever have...just think of me laughing at you. Nasty girl.
Good luck to all those struggling to conceive! x

I very much agree depo does cause problems with fertility... However I also agree that many women have fertility problems on there own... I have a fertility problem called Pcos ( polycystic ovarian syndrome) I apparently was born with this condition... I knew i was having problems in that area from the time I was like 12 when i initially started my period cause i was irregular and it hurt so bad... I went to several walk in clinics and obgyn but nothing I was just young my body adjusting and it would all work itself out when i got older... I met this guy when i was 16 and we started dating and were getting serious so i didnt want to get prego until we were financially stable so i went to the dr and they suggested depo. I asked lots of questions and made it very clear that I wanted to have a baby just not right now so i took only one shot... the dr told me i would no longer have a period as long as i was on it, I bled everyday for 3 months... so i decided maybe my body was just different and would do the opposite with the shot so decided not to take it anymore... well I got married to the same guy when i was 18 and we started ttc right away nothing for a solid year so i went to this ob that was supposed to be one of the best in my area and he diagnosed me with PCOS i told him about my experience with depo and he could hardly believe they would have allowed me to be put on depo with this condition... He stated a lot of dr dont read up on things a lot and research before perscribing it because its legal we can give it out but He always researched and he found people with this condition or similar conditions of infertility shouldnt take depo at all because the things that depo changes in your body could actually be what is already wronge with your body therefore it is just making the condition way worse. that is what happened in my case and two of my very close friends cases as well....So I took Metformin for the Pcos, clomid 2 pills a day for 5 days for a total of 6 months and also had to include Decatron because my progeterin levels were way too low I had 2 succesful ovulations because of all the meds i was on but had to take a break from all of it for a while still no baby... However i did try to adopt and I guess they think I am too young to be a mommy so to the girl who dont have any feelings apparently or at least has no idea what the rest of us is going through it isn't always that easy... good luck to all of you who are tying to get prego i would love to hear if any of youi have any success stories... Maybe they will take this drug off the market becuase they dont put on the lable what all this drug can do..~JM

I am 20 yrs old and i have been on the Depo since i was 13 the reason for starting the shot so early was b.c my periods were so heavy..& now that i am 20 and have been on it for awhile...the thought of fertility problems worries me b.c i would like to start a family in a few years..(Random)-->In the last 6 months i have been getting extremely bad cramping around the time i am due for my depo shot and i have never experienced cramping like this. The pain last 15 mins each and it results in hot flashes, vomiting, and dizziness...Will my cramping be this bad every time after i get off the depo? Or Am i cramping so bad b.c i have not had a real period in years?..& will i have regular periods now that I'm older?

I was 13 or 14 when i got on the depo shot. i stayed on it unil mt senior year of high school which was 2005. im 24 now, will be 25 in feb.2011. i have been off the shot for a while now. im trying to have a baby with my husband but cant. me and my husband been married for 3 years. it will be 4 years on feb. 16, 2011. i think that shot really messed me up from having kids. depo is for woman that had a lot of children, not for women plans on having children. that birth control is bogus and i dont recommend it for women that want 2 have children. can someone tell me is this a lawsuit matter? this matter should be publicly dicussed. the only thing i got out of the shot is weight gain. the shot is giving to every 3 months. u dont have a period between those 3 months. after i got off the shot i bled for like 2 months straight. everyday i had to wear a maxi pad. i think the fda should take this type of birth control off the market. someone please talk to me. my email address is _[removed]_u

I'm 18 and graduating in may I've been on depo since my freshman year so about 4 years now and after reading all your stories I'm very worried about not being able to have kids. I've experienced some major weight gain and I've never had problems with weight before. Before I started Depo I weighed 110 now im 175 I haven't changed any of my habits since I weighed 110 and I think the depo has a lot to do with it. I have big plans for my life I'm going to collage and I'm getting married in 2014. If i can't have children I will be so devastated and I am very worried :'( . Anymore information would be greatly appreciated.

And no doc will give me the time of day, only to try and put me onto a different contraseptive as i fell pregnant about a year and half ago and lost the baby after just under 3months.
my partner and i despratly want a baby and he has one of his own already. Shame noone is helping. hope you've had the help you needed now.

I got the depo shot when I was 18 for the first time. It was also the only time. During it and after, I have had irregular periods. I am now 20 and know I cannot get pregnant. At first, when mistakes happened, I was somewhat skeptical but then I tested my theory for real by using no contraceptive. I am told this drug only lasts up to year, and I'm in no position to be pregnant right now, but I'm wondering if I will be infertile for life. I've had testing done and I'm healthy, as far as the doc says. She says its unlikely I will remain infertile, but 2 years seems way past the cut off. I think my doctor is full of sh*t in one way or the other.
